Guys, regarding my earlier post about the saab being tougher to learn than the CRJ. Bored answered it pretty well, it's nothing to get worked up about and the training department here is excellent. There's a few more lights to figure out in the saab and occasionally the Swedish engineering and American logic don't mix so well. Not a huge deal as long as you put the effort in. Sorry if I made a few of you unnecessarily nervous. XJ is a good company to be with right now, welcome aboard to all of you.

Hey the CRJ is just as fun to learn. Made by Canadians and taught by a guy that I swear has the Ice Road running through his backyard(he was great!). Great instruction though as long as you bring your Canadian to American dictionary... A.

All kidding aside both take work but you can get through it. The CRJ program is just better set up from the factory with a more modern streamlined training program then the SAAB which was set up in the 80's. Yeah the Saab's we have are all from the late 90's but the program from the factory was never really updated except by XJ which leaves it a little more piecemeal.

Some one asked on another thread "how long on reserve" I figured I would copy it here as well since this probably belongs here too.
Well the guys that got hired in march and April when we stopped hiring are on reserve still until the sept class starts to kick out. While I believe the ones we just hired in September by the time they get done will sit reserve maybe a month or two. Now there are 3 or 4 classes filled since the September 8th class so go figure. If hiring continues probably not more than 3-6 months depending on base and aircraft(msp tends to be senior). If hiring stops (not implying anything as hiring looks to continue) and you catch the last boat out of the pool... well you might be on reserve for a while. 900 movement is probably the fastest now but seniority rules for upgrade. 200 movement is the slowest right now but if hiring continues a lot of upgrades are going to come out of all FO positions.
FYI good or bad depending on your desired base the 200 is ONLY MSP based while the rest are spread across MSP DTW and MEM. And I have heard but cannot confirm they tend to give the 200 to people that desire MSP as a base. So as not to stick an east coaster or some one who desires DTW or MEM in a base they cannot bid out of till 2 years or up grade. The 900 and Saab are in all three bases so you can move to wherever the aircraft your in is based and your seiority can bid to it.

The new Northwest Newsletter that just came out states that an additional 36 E170s are on the way for Compass and an additional 36 900s are on the way for "another Northwest Airlink partner". Any guesses as to where those will go? I think it's pretty obvious, why don't they just say it.

Interviewed yesterday with 7 others. In the intro for the day we were told essentially what everyone else "doesn't know" at this point. The head of HR said he got a call in early september to start interviewing/hiring again, with no end in sight. There were guys in the interview with TT in the low 300s. Majority were 700-1000 TT with two having previous part 121 experience. One had already been furloughed by TSA and the other was just waiting for the call.
All of the gouges online are very accurate and everyone really had the feeling that they want you to make it through the interview process. The gentleman doing the sim evals was very laid back and there were no curveballs to worry about. From the beginning he said I want to see a consistent instrument scan, and you need to fly as though you have 70 passengers in the back (ie no crazy banks, changes in pitch, etc...) If anyone knows how to upload pictures on the forum, I have a copy of a pic a friend got on his cell phone of the sim used in the eval. If you have any questions about the interview process feel free to pm me. Everyone in our interview group made it through the drug screen and seemed real positive so we'll see what happens. Good luck to the rest of you that or interviewing, or waiting to interview.

I guess I can point out that the sim was easier to fly than I expected (easier than a frasca I'd say, but to each their own), what with the analog DME and an airspeed indicator in mph. The sim guy was pretty laid back which also made things more relaxed. They just want to see you fly around, do steep turns, some VOR work fly an ILS, go missed and hold at an NDB. It's a little herky-jerky but if you make small adjustments everything should work out ok.
