Any word if Mesaba is really looking to hire 200 more pilots or was that just a rumor?

Perhaps you're not as good as Flylow. I have had students who soloed in as little as ten hours and couple who never did. You must remember that the ability to learn is different in each individual. We had one guy in a CRJ-900 program who was an absolute 'skilled' pilot at just over 200 hours.

The current vacancy closed yesterday and was supposed to award today. I'd bet a new vacancy will be out Friday. I predict saab and a small number of 200 new hires.

Congratulations!

If you get the 900, PM me any questions you might have about training, etc. It'd be a blast.

Welcome aboard!

Right on! Indeed in the 60s majors hired pilots with little or no experience. Most European airlines still do. It's just that our 'model' in the US has been a bit different for quite some time now. Depending on what time in the past recruiting took place, some of the new hired pilots had to have many thousands of hours before even getting an interview, but it had nothing to do with how good they were. It was strictly a 'number' game to narrow down list of possible applicants. Gradually, established pilots began to snarl at those who got in with relatively low number of total and ME time. It was more like ‘I paid my dues and you didn’t’ instead of using any brain cells to see whether that argument had any merit. Unfortunately, that mentality still exists.

Ya know, I walked 10 miles to school in 120 degree heat with 10 feet of snow, uphill, both ways.

Congrats on the job and good luck in training dude......I am so tired of you guys trying to stand up for new hires with little time. I would NOT have turned down the job if I were in that position (I had 400 hrs multi when I got hired) because I was and didn't. I don't think it is good for the future of OUR careers for pilots with 25 hrs to fly jets. If you think that this is a step in the right direction then good for you but I think this is a serious problem.....Most of my blame goes to mainline guys that gave up scope many years ago but again I don't fault this guy for taking the job so you guys can stop getting so worked up, we are all in this together.

Don't listen to this idiot.

I had a guy in my 900 class with only 19 hours of Seminole time. He did well. In reality, 100s of hours of small ME time does not have much to do with learning how to fly the CRJ-900 with EFIS, FMS, etc. What most people find challenging in training is learning the profiles, call-outs, and putting it all together in timely manner.

Bring good attitude, ask questions, study like you never did before, don't go home on the weekends, and whatever else you think you need in order to make sure you're not behind in ground school...and you'd be just fine.

I'd be more than happy to answer any 900 training questions you might have.

Welcome aboard!

If you think he's a tool, then I have to say you're an idiot if you can't figure the difference between a turboprop time and Jet (Pure/Turbojet/Turbofan) time. Many airlines in the world actually require you to diffrentiate between 'truboprop' and 'trubofan/jet' time.

One very popular airline actually won't even give you an interview if you had thousands of hours of turbofan PIC time unless you have at least few thousand hours of turbofan (jet) time. Comprende?
