Why the heck are we hiring 10 new hires for the 200 we had 22 reserve lines last month and 10 more saab guys. I wonder if crew planning randomly says we need a class

The "big announcement" on Wednesday was suppose to answer this question. That day has come and gone, so yeah maybe they are just trying to keep themselves busy.

Patience boys... patience. The 200 vacancies can mean only 2 things. They forecast attrition from the 200 FO ranks and need to backfill. Or, we're getting more 200s. But the last theory may not make too much sense, because there were only 2 upgrades. So, I put more weight on FO movement. It's definitely not random acts by planning, since training costs the company tons of money. There is indeed something big going on, regardless of when this announcement is going to take place.

I am gonna keep optimistic and hope we get more 200's because then its a win win for everbody, movement in the FO ranks and more upgrades for people who have the time and of course for those captains at the bottom of the list it could mean no ready reserve?

Something big is going on behind the scenes here, boys and girls. I have a feeling Mesaba is about to become bigger than it ever has been. Who would have thought Mesaba would be the place to be a couple years ago. I just feel lucky to be here.

Gotta agree with bored on this one.
If you're assuming we're getting more airframes, the CA upgrades indicate which type we might get. Look at the last two awards: a large number of 900 CA's... only two 200 CA's. FO's only indicate where planning thinks future CA upgrades will come FROM, not to.

Thanks for the quick answers. I would love to fly either aircraft. Interesting how your screen name is ihatemgmt. My hours are relatively low (900/150) because I managed a flight school for over 5 years instead of flying. I can understand how some managers lose the joy of aviation. I got so burned out on it, that's why I am eager for the airline hiring to resume. Money (higher pay in mgmt) can't buy joy.
