No telephone informants, no inside knowledge, no investment based wishes - what if ?

Mesaba gets Pinnacle airplanes became an all CRJ2/9 Regional ?

Colgan gets Mesaba Saabs and becomes an all turboprop regional ?

I am pretty sure crew planning had nothing to do with the NWA flow through going to sh** in less than 3 months. The reason we are over staffed on the Saab is because they were planning on 9 pilots a month leaving. They were over staffed on purpose.

Not entirely. Part of the problem was simply hiring too many onto the Saab to begin with. The flow was only taking 3 through September (still 3 months away) About the time it takes to train someone. We have been way overstaffed on the Saab for a while. They simply didn't get the word to stop the hiring at least onto the Saab when they should have. Bringing in all the street captains was completely unneeded.

I guess we'll never be happy... we complain when we're understaffed and vacations are canceled. Now we're complaining about being overstaffed. I know it's hard to give the company credit for stuff, but at least this time they were TRYING to be proactive with staffing.

I think they figured most the movement to the jets would come from the saab. That, combined with guys flowing to NWA and moving to Delta, CO, UAL, Southwest etc... (when they were hiring) they saw the need to staff the saab heavy. If that's where alot of the movement is coming FROM, seems to me that the saab was the plane to staff heavy. But now all that movement is in the dumper and we find ourselves overstaffed on the saab. Too bad the company didn't think about releasing the FO seatlocks sooner.

I'm with you on this one, bored. I do give the company credit for trying their best to staff accordingly. Remember, just a few months ago, most majors/legacies were hiring, too. Loosing 3 planned per month to the flow on top of other reasonable attrition estimates led us to get a bit thick on pilots. Not to mention, we have a least a few guys in the SWA pool as well. This was supposed to be the year when everyone who wanted to could move on.

Things changed very very quickly.

I'd much rather be slightly over/properly staffed than understaffed. You want a real nightmare job, try understaffed.

They probably should build lines back to 90 hours block and start furloughing. I think you are partly correct, but I don't see the senior pilots for a given base/seat complaining about the days off.

No things should shuffle out soon I hope. It's this ready reserve crap they've started pulling that I have issues with. That needs to go away. It's useless.
