Mesaba new hires
#241
I dont mean to hijack this thread or anything but i figure it fits under the general topic of new hires.
Im curious as to why it takes mesaba 5-10 days to call you back about being hired or not. Ive heard several regionals tell you day of interview you are hired or not. What is the reason they take that length of time?

Think of the problem from an HR and training perspective.
36 CRJ900s to train (transition of Captains / FOs and new hire FOs.
17 CRJ200s to train (transition of Captains / FOs and new hire FOs.
SAAB FO upgrades to Captain and new hire FOs to train
It takes everything from licking the stamps (mail packages) to arranging hotel rooms, scheduling instructors, simulator time, etc., etc. - oh by the way there is also an airline to run. They are busier then a "one legged man in an a** kicking contest.
The biggest limltation is probably simulator time. How much they can purchase, when and where, will probably determine most class dates. I believe the MSP SAAB sim section can train about thirty pilots a month. CRJ sim time is probably in demand by numerous regionals.
RJ85FO and/or XJSAAB can give a more accurate interpretation.
ADDED: In addition Mesaba people are tripping over the Compass new hires taking up space in the training center.

Understandably so. I know they are busy as hell with getting people scheduled with class dates and finding sim time i was just curious if that period between interview and the "You're hired" call had to do with them getting paper work like employment verification, calling references, drug tests and background check returns were involved in the between time.

From what I remember one of the more senior captains at Mesaba telling us at the interview, by the time you actually get out of class, finish IOE and start flying either you will move so fast through seniority that you will not have any time on reserve at all or it will a very very short amount of time. Please correct me if anyone else has heard different.

I just started indoc yesterday. They are telling us reserve will not even exist for us once done with IOE.

You better get that in writing. They just fired some guy in training now I have to pick up his green line trips. I'm detroit based, now I'm going to memphis to cover this guy. I'll bet you $5 you will be on reserve, there's too much movement in the company to not put anyone on reserve.

Do you know why he was fired? I am home for a bit waiting to go back to sim.

Not sure if this has been answered yet but whats the proper procedure for applying with Mesaba? Website does not really give instruction on this.

Go to their website, click on "employment", click on "job postings", then scroll down to pilot-first officer and click. It should take you thru to an online questionaire for you to fill out. Complete that and attach your resume, then send it in!
