After around my 6th denied request I've started to get pushy. Its supposed to be first come first serve...but I know I was the first one to submit the form on at least 1 of them (I know because it only popped up when I hit refresh). So now, when I don't get it, I call and ask why. Followed by a 'really? how many seconds did they beat me by?' It gets the point across anyway...

Their is very limited reason they can deny a trip pickup. Overstaffed reserves is not one of them except if it is less than 48 hrs to the time the trip starts. If your wondering who got the trip just type in the pairing number (ie 3b85) in crew web under pairing print. Then you can see for yourself if it was legit.

I can't believe I hadn't thought of this...I figured I'd have to hang out the crew lounge and say "alright who's going to toledo...you better not be on reserve!"

Thanks

If you find out you are being denied in a manner which is not legitimate, please grieve it. Otherwise, it will never change.

Open time is only updated twice a day. It is impossible to know where your trade stands in the stack of trades, unless you call and ask. You have to catch open time before the 48 hour mark. At that point it goes to a reserve. And no, you don't get paid for it if it goes to a reserve. Why would you? You only get paid for it if they assign it to you.

There are actually a lot of ways trip trades can get denied... like overnight coverage, 29/7, base rest, duty day etc... While it's frustrating, I wouldn't exactly turn on the attitude with scheduling.

On another note... pulling reserve does drag. But watch out who you complain to. There are tons of FOs that did YEARS of reserve and are only now getting to enjoy what it's like to hold a line be it an FO line or finally a Captain line. New hires holding a line after only a couple months on reserve is a new concept at XJ.

Well said. Some new hires may not realize that and get bent out of shape when they don't get a line right out of IOE.

You arent going to know it all and the IOE Instructors know that. Just enjoy yourself and ask lots of questions.

Good luck!
