I know it is impossible to tell right now, but what do you think the future will hold for new guys like myself at mesaba if the merger happens?
True.
I think 17 are committed to flow although none have left the property. Most have been bypassed by Nwa for 3 months but have a Nwa seniority number based on there original Nwa class date. Flow started in Jan 2008.

A question on Non-Rev travel and companion pass traveling:

The system is really confusing to me. I am trying to do some non-rev traveling with friends on a companion pass internationally. How can I get out of a city w/o NW service? I can jumpseat but can I get an ID-90 or ZED fare for my friends going on the companion pass? Why can't I list for all the NW flights on the schedule? Any that say 'AIR' are operated by other carriers and can't be listed on? Can I list for KLM flights? Its turning out not to be as easy as I had expected. Its free guess I can't complain too much.

Also, if I don't know what flight I want to come home on when I am in another country, how can I list for the ride home? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hey, does anyone know the size of the flight case holder in the flight deck of the CRJ-200? I'm wondering which of these two flight cases I should get:

http://www.stopoverstore.com/product...id/245/pid/106

seems to be standard issue for most pilots, or some other variation of the PN flight case

They should both fit. Between those two, I would get the second one, because it doesn't have that big goofy flap on the side.

Don't spend more than 60 bucks on a flight case. On my second Sparco case in eight years and its still going strong after being in the Saab for 7 of those years 6 legs a day. Any catalog case that fits works and at the end of a few years the genuine leather looks the same as the genuine vinyl after you, the airplane, ramp and deice fluid take turns kicking the **** out of it. Any catalog case (any office supply store) that fits works although I can vouch for the sparco. Some the handle rips off but the only reason the last one was retired is five years on the saab did it in. This is the one I bought. Sparco Catalog Case, Top Loading, Dual Locks, 18"x8"x13", Black. Haven't tried it on the CRJ but I assume it will fit I'll find out next month.

the only reason I would get the first one is because I have a 17" laptop. are pilots allowed to carry their roll aboard, flight case, AND a laptop case on board?

The first one may be a little bit of a tight fit. 9" wide is pushing the limit of the bin. I have the split grain Purdy Neat (LW) mentioned earlier, which measures 8.5" on the outside, and it just fits in the CRJ-900 (the bin size is the same from 200 to 900). If the first one fits, at 9" wide, you probably can't have anything more than a few sheets of paper in that outside pocket, and it may be a bit of a squeeze.

You'll hear all kinds of different opinions about whether to spend the money for a high quality flight case, or get cheap ones every few years. I'll admit I spent a few bucks on mine. But personally, I like the piece of mind knowing that I'm not going to have a Jepp explosion anytime in the near future. As long as it's not any more than 8" to 8.5" inches wide, including any outside pockets, and does not have any wheels or external hardware, just get what you like and are comfortable with.

By the way, your opinion on carrying your laptop with you may change very quickly when you see how much of a hassle it is. I originally thought I might as well, and quickly changed my attitude after my first trip. Now I just take my iPod. You still have to take your laptop out and have it screened by TSA at every checkpoint, and it adds a lot of weight. By the time you get to your hotel room every night, you'll be ready to get some dinner, watch a little TV, and pass out anyway....not much time for emailing or whatever. I've found that the best thing for me to do is to carry a USB drive with any files that I need, and just use that at the hotel business centers. Also, just use web based email, so you can access it from any PC. I'll only take my laptop or portable DVD player with me if I'm sitting reserve in the crew room. Entertainment isn't much of a necessity otherwise.

Alright thanks. I'll probably make the decision to get the 8.5" instead of 9"
