They are popular on the Saab. 18.A. of the contract lists a "V-neck" long sleeve sweater as approved optional garments.

If you are on the Saab in MSP or DTW, you are going to need some winter footwear that is all black as well. You will see all sorts of things, but be sure whatever you get is waterproof and/or fluid proof. You cannot avoid getting de-icing fluid on your shoes on the Saab and that flight deck floor is COLD in the winter.

I was actually about to ask about footwear for the cold saab winters Do you have some examples that would be allowed?

Okay, I have heard rumors on the Mesaba street captains thread. Do all new hires have to sign the 12000 one year contract or is it just for the street captains?

You'll see all kinds of things. Keep in mind FOM 4.2.H.11. I think traditionally a little leeway has been given to Saab pilots due to the conditions we operate in. However, the guidance is there. What you determine to fit/approximate the policy is up to you.

Sweet news about the stopover store sweater. I was about to order one from M&H, which is obviously more expensive.

I bought some waterproof shoes from Red Wing and have been very happy with them. It sucks having to take them and all your winter gear off going through security but welcome to winter ops. Yet another good reason to be an FFDO ;-) Side note has anyone seen the Air Canada crew winter jackets? Fur lined parkas I'd love to have one of those on a DVL highspeed. It's bitter cold out there. FO's get yourself something that covers you face to. Those winds cut like knives. Also I like/use the mittens that flip open so you can use your fingers. I got a good pair at REI. Long underwear is good to. Did I mention it's cold in the SAAB? ;-) You'll look back on these years and smile. The flying is tough and brutal, but the crews work through it together and you'll have great memories from it.
