To prep with a formal company or not depends on your background. If you have extensive experience conducting STAR interviews yourself or have been through many HR interviews before in passed jobs you may be just fine. The key is to be very specific, complete your thoughts , and make sure you give details in your actions. Never use the words I always , usually , sometimes etc... Take a minute to think before answering during the interview no matter how prepared you are. I think people get thrown a curveball with some of the questions because they didn’t have a story prepared and then just spit out whatever comes to mind. It is ok to take your time. A minute to you will feel a lot slower than a minute to the interviews as they expect you to think and be methodical as we are on the flight deck.

The majority of interviewees during my interview were military. That should tell you something about their little Aviate Program. I should have moved on from XJT a long time ago. They definitely did a good job of stringing us along thinking we'll have a shot at United.
The crazy part is, they are luring younger people into thinking they should fly for one of the 4 regionals. Then they will go to United when their time has been met. That makes me sick! I would be very upset if I was in this program and went through college thinking I would get hired. I have done a fair amount of time at XJT. No major issues that would prevent me from being part of the program and still denied...twice. Do not Opt in to their program. You will only be setting yourself up for failure when you see the other people in the interview are mainly NOT regional pilots. Rant over. |

Why did you do the interview if the program is such a joke?

United has announced that Bebe O'Neill, former base chief pilot for the Denver base, has been promoted to Managing Director of the Aviate program.
Anybody who's followed her progress knows she's going places within the company. So, to me, this announcement suggests that United is putting a lot of emphasis on the Aviate program, and, if you're serious about a career with United, ignore Aviate at your own risk! |
Does anyone know how many of the people who were turned down during the CPP program were lacking a 4 year degree? Some were due to attitude or other reasons, but they place a huge emphasis on the degree. A program may get your name drawn out of the hat, but if you don’t have what they want they are not likely to offer the job.

Take everything with a grain of salt. People say the program is such a scam and just a recruiting tool.... then why are they being so selective? If they wanted to use it solely as a recruiting tool, they would accept everyone then turn them down at the end. If you get in, you are in no way guarantee an FO position but it’s pretty much yours to lose.
