Making Contacts

Making Contacts
It's always a good policy to make contacts and network with people in the aviation industry especially in company you want to work for. However, sometimes it is easier said than done.
People often say to keep in touch with ex-flight instructors who move on. Well, mine work for Mesa and Kenmore (SEA Caravan), not my first choices. I have other contacts but mainly in the Majors or for companies that are further down on my list.
I fly a King Air that goes mostly to small airports (and usually the same ones) away from the higher traffic areas which makes meeting other regional pilots .. difficult.
I'm sure others are in the same boat, or at least have been. Any suggestions to get your App/resume walked in and put on top of that desk we all want it on?

if you're out there right now flying a king air, and are interested in a regional job, then i don't know why you'd have any trouble. If you've got turbine time ontop of plain multi, you'd be a shoe in @ just about every regional out there. The key as i'd see it, is getting contacts where you want to be. Corporate, Regionals, Majors etc. You're contacts at the majors would be a great help for you if that's where you plan on ending up, if you want to be at a regional, just shoot your top picks your resume', i bet they'll bite. If you want corporate, you might meet the best contacts right there at some of those small airports you're flying into.

I've always said/been told that hours are good but friends are great. I don't know if how well I knew people had anything to do with my current position but I'm where I want to be for now. We'll see how the rest of training goes. I use to keep all my contacts in my phone and would call them frequently to touch base. However some bastard thought it would be funny to throw me in a pool fully dressed, with my phone on me, and needless to say all those contacts are gone. I can't get some of them back. So when you meet someone make sure you write their info down and keep it safe.
