"Obviously you get off by coming on here and smashing everyones dream to do something they might love"
He likes seeing people respond to him. It's an ego thing. Don't feed the troll and it will go away. I know it's hard. I can't do it, either.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. If a degree in "underwater basket weaving" has value to a parent or child, what right does anyone else have to criticize it. It's the same with money spent. $150,000 is chump change to some people (not me). They might purchase an airplane, fund a wedding, or send a kid to college. Why the criticism of an "Aviation Education." Let people lead their own lives.

A very good friend of mine is a Plumber who can barely find work right now. Maybe you've noticed the real estate market is in the worst shape it's been in years? What do you think those guys do when new-home permits are in free-fall?
Additionally, the Cop job is plenty secure, but the work rules are pretty crummy. And you constantly inflate the pay when you mention this. Cops where I live make about the same as Regional Capts.
My personal opinion: In the future, more people will fly. Meaning the low demand route that used to be cost effective with a small airplane, will lose out to a more efficient big airplane. Meaning there will be less pilots per passenger, but more pay per pilot. International travel will likewise increase with a similar effect: Bigger and longer range airplanes.

Disagree
I expect you guys to disagree with me. You are all in a position where you have to believe that my ideas are wrong. The alternative is to brace for career Armageddon.
I on the other hand do not have my future or income tied to this profession anymore and therefore am at liberty to see the truth.

Tell Us
Wow you just have a answer to everything. I guess all those people who study economics and supply and demand know nothing. But you skyhigh know everything. Take your negativity and bull$hit somewhere else because we don't care what you have to say anymore your like a annoying broken record that we don't want to hear anymore. Obviously you get off by coming on here and smashing everyones dream to do something they might love. Do you think teachers teach for the money well surprise most don't they do it for the love of their career. Everyone rags on instructors who are just doing it for the time and don't care enough. Well if instructors who did care did it for the money they we wouldn't have any instructors. Sorry your life sucked as a airline pilot but you no longer need to remind us of that cause we have heard it over 2000 times. Go get a new hobby because you obviously have no life with all the time you spend on here. Maybe your new job allows you to but if you make so much money at that spend it on something to entertain yourself.
What do ecomomists study? I studied ecomomics too. Right now there is a shortage of labor in the regionals. Instead of raising the pay they are lowering the minimums. Eventually companies will resort to direct hire programs from universities and cadet hires from flight schools. They will do anything before raising wages much.
Pay will not go up. If employers can hire virtual high school kids strait from a 90 day zero to hero program at ATP and then toss them directly into the right seat of a modern jet then you and your argument have absolutely no hope. The industry will never go back again.
The current regional hiring boom will bust soon and most of those hired over the last few years will be back at flight schools begging for their jobs back and annoying every charter and piston cargo outfit.
I am right. My views alarm people because they are valid. The horror makes them seem wild and absurd but when I was 29 years old a crusty old air taxi owner told me that the airlines were going to collapse I didn't believe him either and look at what happened. We still have yet to see one or more of the legacies fall. We haven't found bottom yet.
My only crime is that I am the messenger of bad news.

Skyhigh.....I hope you realize there are young aviators out there who understand all of the "bad things" you say and still want to fly for a living! Happiness is not $ or prestige, rather it is going to bed at night feeling proud and satisfied with their career. (Even in a rotten hotel room) All careers have their downfalls......I am sorry about your situation.....but you seem to be doing ok! So be more positive....you will live longer!
