Is Commuting An Option For Me?

How hard would it be from DFW or DAL to STL on reserve? Doesn't look like it would be too difficult with about 12 flights a day from each airport. Just want to get the opinion of those that are out there and do it every day.

Commuting sucks....a lot....
If you CAN move to base, I would recommend it. Unless you have a really good reason to stay where you're at, your QOL at any airline would greatly increase by living in base.
P.S. - Commuting on reserve is like being the next door neighbor to Satan. You're not IN hell, but you're pretty damn close.
(Yea, I commute)

I can move to base, although I would rather not live in STL. I'm fresh out of school, no girlfriend or other commitments so I can move pretty much anywhere. Just want to get back to the south so if it was possible to commute from DFW that would be prime. If not then it is no big deal to move.

I commute from PIT to SJU. Its not bad since there is one direct flight on weekends and its easy to get out of SJU. The biggest problem is trying to get a flight from PIT to PHL or CLT. Commuting between hubs can be tricky with hundreds of other pilots, FA's, gate agents and everyone else doing the same. But there are ways around it going to differnt cities or even ups and fedex. However, I have to give myself a 12 hour window each way otherwise the missed assignments would rack up real fast.

Anything is possible. Whether you'll like it or not is a completely different story. When you're junior, it definately eats up a lot of your time as you will get low time, uncommutable trips or at worst be on reserve. That means you spend half the day before a trip commuting up, and half the day after commuting down. All told, you could have 2 days off in a row and spend barely 24 hours there...and most of that will be eaten up by getting ready to head off for the next trip.
