Skywest and a second flying job...

Skywest and a second flying job...
I know I've heared that you can do it with prior permission (following the regs etc....). My question for Skywest guys is....is it realistic?
I start ground school on May 7 at Skywest and I am not a young pup that can suck it up for a year. (not that any of us really can ) I have the opportunity to continue flying at my current job on a very part time basis that will allow me to make ends meet.
Would it be easy enough to give up a trip here or there so that I can make some cash at my old (current) job? or is it not realistic because of bidding, reserve, work rules, etc....
Also, how willing are the chief pilots to help out in this instance? Do they really frown upon it or are they willing to support it?
Thanks

Not much real help here, but from numerical perspective, there is a chance they'd let you do 5 hours till dec if you haven't flown your hindquarters off these last 4 months. lines are coming out with as much as 92 hours on them, so they couldn't do much more than that. Once 2008 starts, though, I'd strongly doubt they'd let you for fear of hitting 1,000. Why not look at other non flying work?

I'm sure they would let you do it while waiting for IOE or on weekends in groundschool, as long as you are in no danger of reaching 1000. Once you get online I doubt they would want to let you fly much above your 94 hour line due to tight staffing. They like to leave several hours as a buffer for contingencies. You could probably do a couple hours maybe.

BTW, SKW will allow you to work outside BUT SKW is your #1 employer and if your outside flying prevents SKW from working you odds are you won't be working here much longer. BUT, after 2-3 months worth of training plus reserve you won't even come close to having a problem the first year, it's the second year that you'll have a problem (SKW will fly you around 1000 RJ/1100-1200 Bro hrs, I average 92+ per month on the Bro). They'll tell you this in indoc, you have to receive permission but they'll grant it. I know of several pilots that fly outside of SKW.

Thanks for the help guys.....
As for working outside of aviation (non flying) it is defenitely a consideration however I do not think I can make the same amount of money.
forgive my ignorance...121 flying and bidding is all new to me. If I am awarded a 92 hour line for the month, am I allowed to give say a part of it away? Like give up a three day or something to anyone that wants it. That would free up not only a week but also 20 hours of flying for the month. Is that possible? If it's possible are there pilots to pick the extra up? It sounds like the answer would be no based on the fact that lines are that full (92-94) but there maybe something I am missing.
Kansas....Im not sure what open time is. Sorry, again "new guy" Ill do a search...
JetJock....thanks for the good info. That clarifies a lot. Im not too worried about the second year....just the first. Im only looking at about 250 hrs for the year right now and with ground school for 5 weeks Im figuring the 1000 mark wont be reached.
By the way...when does your one year of service pay increase? One year after the first day of ground school? Checkride? IOE?
Thanks
