I don't advocate sending kids to gang infested and unsafe schools but school is what you make of it. I didn't go to private school and it was fine. Private schools are overrated IMO.

Since when did marriage and motherhood necessarily make one mature?

No, I don't think (s)he meant that. That's reading a little too much into it IMO.

1. Well, I desire 10 million dollars. Sometimes you just can't have everything you want. People spoil kids waaaay too much these days. There is a reason they call it the entitlement generation. I didn't get much because my mom couldn't afford it. Know what I did? I got a job at 16 and earned the money for things myself. (yeah yeah yeah, hot mama, I don't have kids so I am clueless. Don't even bother)

2. I agree 100% with your second statement.

10 Million is a respectible and realistic amount to aim for and I don't plan on rolling out the red carpet for my kids either. I paid for all my own college and flight training.

Well, for me if I would of went to the local public school I would of found myself hanging around kids whom I now see with dead end job, and bastard kids, I needed the discipline, besides I made friends that are like brothers to me today, and had I met them in public school I wouldn't have even talked to them. Not debating Public V Private, but fro me it was better, and if Im fortunate enough I will send my children to private school, most public schools are like daycare IMO

You still need discipline man.

I'm a product of public school. But it was public school in a good area. The private school kids in that area were the drug dealers that got kicked out of public school. The public school kids were just...normal.

That's cool. I was not dissing private school. I am sure it's great for some people, however I think you can be just fine going to public school. I grew up in a trailer park and pretty much everyone I hung out with had babies at 16, ended up on welfare and were on the fast track to nowhere last time I heard. I guess I didn't need the discipline. Some people do. I just don't think private school is a must. With the taxes we pay for the schools where we live, we sure as hell will NOT be sending the kiddies to private school.

Im not typically one to respond to agressive posts, but I think this whole money buys happiness, public vs private debate is silly.
I am the oldest of 7 kids, grew up dirt poor, went to a public school, joined the military so i could put myself through college, and you know what? I am just fine. Its not up to the schools to raise the kids, its up to the parents. If you instill morality into your children, chances are, they wont fall prey to the drugs/alcohol crowd.
As for money, if you are happy with what you are doing, and happy with your life, money doesnt mean squat. As long as you have enough to cover the bills, and your kids are happy, then thats all that matters.
Thats my two cents! LOL!!!

I am a 20 year old college sophomore majoring in something totally unrelated to aviation. As most everyone on here, I have been captivated by aviation ever since I was a little boy. I thought about going to ERAU for college, but decided not to because of the state of the airline industry in the Fall of 2004. I went to another 4 year university, and I decided to take all the required classes for admission to medical school. I have kept my GPA high through all those classes, but since that time, I have had many doctors advise me to not go into medicine because of all the stuff that doctors have to now put up with. I know of one guy who was heart surgeon and now drives an 18-wheeler for a living.

I am now again thinking about a career in aviation. I am going to, without a doubt, finish my degree, but I realize that I need to start flight training now if I want an airline career even as an option when I graduate. Is now the time for someone in my age group to pursue a career in aviation? Would you advise someone in my position to start preparing for an aviation career? I posted this in the regional forum because I know that the Regionals either make or break a career in aviation for many people, and I would like to hear thoughts from Regional pilots as that is where an aviation career could me made or broke for me.

I am a realist in that I know it will take many years to get to a major airline, and I know that the road to that "dream" job is a long and hard one, but what "dream" job is not that way? I plan on going to talk with an XJT FO who is the son of one of my dad's work partners in the near future for starters. Please post the good, the bad, and the ugly as I am trying to find the career that fits me the best and trying to make the best decision based on all the information that I can gather. Thanks in advance for your responses.
I think that what you are doing is a great thing! I believe that if you really want to follow your dream, you should do it. Not many people get to live out their dream and take the risk! Kudos to you! My dh is living out his, and eventually it will pay off! But if it doesnt, we always have other things to fall back on, so I suggest getting a degree in something substantial as well, just in case!
