When I grew up, my elementary school teacher always told me 2 wrongs don't make a right.

To answer the original question - money is important and so is being happy. Do the job that will pay the bills and make you happy. There's a medium in there somewhere.

It's not right....
but I guess for degrading the female gender and minorities back in the day...they're making up for it now perhaps?
While it's wrong, it is on the better side for some people/genders.
And you are right....Do the job that makes you happy, not pays more....

When graduating I'll have a degree in computer programming and that w/o a doubt makes a ton more than a regional airline right seater...
but I would not even dream about doing that instead of flying!

I love flying. As caveman said, after highschool i got offered a computer programming job starting at 45k a year and going up after that. I turned it down and then enrolled at UF and now Embry Riddle. I do not regret my decision because i love to fly and i know lots of people that make great money but hate what they do and im happy that i wont. As far as the whole private school/public school thing, I went to a very good public school and had a great time. Also, most of the drug dealers i have known came from private school(have more money to buy drugs) so HMP you might want to research about it before you make statements bashing all public schools. Public school has also helped me to be more diverse in my thoughts and helped me to understand different cultures point of view. I wouldnt trade it for anything. I agree you might learn more "academic" wise at private school. But that does not mean that public school is a worse choice or that you cant learn at one.
In response to the original question, get your private, find out if flying is right for you, then if it is, fly fly fly!

And on the negative side for other people/genders. No matter how you slice it, giving priority to ANY gender or race is racism and someone ends up losing. It's just the American public is ok with it as long as the person losing is a white male.

I'm not a racist by any means. I don't think a white guy should be given priority over a black girl. I also don't think a black girl should be given priority over a white guy. This is just the world we live in...doesn't make it right.

And yes, do what makes you happy...but make sure you are properly compensated for that. Happiness will only take you so far...it will not pay rent or buy food.

Default Money is everything

It is unwise to disregard the benefits of money.

Money is the power to do whatever you want in life. The ability to help others to the levels required. Money can mean the difference between life and death, happiness and sadness. Financial liberation can mean living a life of satisfaction and accomplishment.

People alive today can expect to live much longer lives than at any other time in history. A simple 401K will not suffice to support yourselves for perhaps 40 years past the normal retirement age.

Your children will desire college, will need braces, insurance, help getting started in life. Your parents most likely will need help with paying for nursing homes and other retirement expenses.

If you don't have the goal of financial independence in mind then you are a fool.

Someone here mentioned that if you developed cancer then perhaps you would be sorry you spent so much energy building wealth. I would say that I would be thankful that my family would be cared for and that whoever was ill would be able to afford the best care and most comfortable time of it and most likely would have a better chance of survival.

Money isn't just important it is vital. Only the most short sighted people would think otherwise.

I went to a private High School in Jersey and do you know what "success" was to those guys????????????getting a job as banker so they can blow lines all weekend long and cheat on their wives & g/f's and have a Porsche...............some may call that "success" I sure as hell don't.

Whoa! I'm speechless.

One of the best posts I've read on this forum.

BTW, you must be getting old. He he

Who cares what other people regard as being successful? The only person I that I want to think that I am successful is me, myself and I. Mom too of course.
