Question for SkyWest Employees
I know there have been a million posts on SkyWest, but I didnt find any info on this by searching threads.
MKE from what I know is a junior base. As of right now there are eight flights(so I am told) that go in and out every day. Are they going to expand MKE for more flights, or are they going to keep it at the eight? I am just wondering because we would like to go there because my mom has cancer, and its close to where she lives, but I dont want DH to be a reserve pilot for too long. I would rather him go to SLC where he can get on a line faster! (Build time and pay, you know!)

Dear Pilotswife4,
Is DH working at SkyWest now? If he is looking at SkyWest to start his career please be advised that most new hire FO's start in the EMB120(CRJ initial new hires do happen DOE). This will put you all in west coast bases (SkyWest just closed DEN EMB120 base). I know there is alot of planned growth in the MKE operation. Are you looking at the flights between SLC and MKE as the 8 you are writing about?
Willing to help but need more info.

Almost all of the last classes have been for the CRJ. Most likely will get the jet and if you want SLC, it is expanding very quickly. MKE would also be very easy to get. Those are the 2 most junior bases right now for newhires

i just saw at least 8 people from the last 1 or 2 new hire classes get MKE. If he doesnt get it right awa, he'll get it after 1 or 2 months.
The routes are going to continue to expand, and they are adding for 3 and 4 day trips that will flow through Kansas City. There will be plenty of day lines and stand ups in the meantime. Theyre adding San Antonio, Newark, possibly Raleigh, and will announce more destinations in the coming months. There will be anywhere from 15-25 CRJ's at MKE when all is said and done, and something like 4-5 crews per airplane.

There will be lots of more flights added to MKE from now until the end of OCT as said above. SkyWest is adding 2 planes a month there until Oct (699BR just left last night from SLC to MKE already to be added to the mix). Lots of new hires getting awarded MKE if they want it and there are lots of people with standing bids to get out of there as well. Anyway, if SLC or MKE is what you want, your in luck!

He shouldn't have too much trouble getting SLC. I know he is in the May 7 class, but here is the breakdown for the May 28 class.
MKE/CP = 12, SLC/CP = 5, = DEN/CP = 8
SLC/FO = 20, ORD/FO = 10, DEN / FO= 12, TUS/FO= 2, PSP/FO=1
With those numbers, it shouldn't be an issue getting SLC.
