Man this is gonna suck... you guys are all b***ching about being asked if you're in high school, and you're 23+. I'm 20 (decided to finish college through ERAU online to get on with this hiring upswing)..... imagine the hell I'm gonna get. The hour requirements aren't holding me back as much as the age 21 requirement at most larger regionals.

When I was first hired at CAL the VP of Flight ops comes into our class to give the typical "Welcome to Continental" talk. He looks around the class and asks "Who is the Catfish here?" After a few confused looks he responds "You know Catfish... The bottomfeeder!" I get pointed out immediatly as the young guy in the class to a few chuckles.
He then tells me not to worry... you will be a top 10 Captain here when some of these guys are dead!!!"
On a second note when people ask my if I am old enough to fly this thing I normally respond that my Mom signed the permission slip so I am good to go!!

Well yeah. Dude I just turned 21 and graduate here in a few weeks to take advantage of this "hiring swing." I was picked up by a regional that is currently sportinig a rather quick upgrade, however I realize that my seniority will hold the left seat long before my age or hours will probably. So get used to it, and if you're leaving at 20, just look forward to three more years in the right seat...and all the "you're too young" comments. I'm not even in training yet and I get that as a flight instructor. Gotta love going home and having people from your high school ask you if they let you "fly by yourself yet." Best of luck.

was home a few weeks ago and ran into someone I had not seen since High School... He says to me "So do you get to go flying by yourself and stuff yet?"...I paused and replied "I fly jets for an airline" he was in complete disbelief...

Why is that ALWAYS the question youngsters get asked?

being a pilot is a pretty exclusive club, most people don't know much about aviation and probably just assume it's a pretty unattainable goal or overestimate how long it takes to become a professional pilot.
There was a recent article in either Airways or Airliners magazine, talking jokingly about "Just for Pilots" shampoo to make passengers feel safer. "Just for Pilots" offers different shades of gray for different seniority levels, i.e. senior FO, junior captain, etc.

Yep I still get that to this day, kind of annoying at times, but oh well, old people don't know any better.
