Mil to Envoy/Republic/Mesa/SkyWest?

Mesa has it's issues but so do most regionals. I've heard horror stories from other regional pilots and the more I study the boards of other regionals the happier I am at Mesa. If he was only getting one day off a week its because he bid for it. I think there's more to the story. I've talked to other regional pilots and I'm actually pretty happy with the QOL at Mesa as a commuter. Bid right and you'll be fine. What MESA lacks is "flow" to American. However if AA isn't your goal airline there are plenty of Mesa guys going to Southwest and other Majors. Mesa is what you make it. It's not nearly so bad as the "avoid at all costs" guys say.
Just met a guy who told me he left Mesa for another regional because he was flying too much - he said he was getting a day a week off (I’m assuming was commuting). Despite asking he didn’t see it changing anytime soon so he changed it for himself by leaving.
OO has just opened DFW. Can’t speak to any others. Agree with comments elsewhere about not commuting and also flying instead of sitting. Re types, l disregarded advice to pick ERJ over CRJ, not because it was incorrect, but because it didn’t fit my particular situation with my specific goals.
If your goal is a major in a couple years, perhaps the best available training, 121 time, and QOL in your situation will be the deciding factors for you. While there is good info on this and other boards, you alone will live with your decision. So go with what works best for you. Good luck!

Agreed, as does every individual. These forums can sometimes help get facts and trends that each of us can apply to our own situations.
Goad to read you’re in a good situation. It’s good to hear positive things - sometimes the negative postings outnumber the positives, but that doesn’t mean the situation is negative.

This is good advice, I appreciate everyone’s feedback! I like the “apply early and choose late” idea. Hadn’t thought of that.
And most likely everything will change in a year. I’ll put ExpressJet on the list and keep an eye on opening / closing Texas domiciles.
SkyWest has a great website with domicile senority and who is getting hired by which major. I wish the rest had that and links to their pilot contracts!

For your planning purposes, you don't want to do Guard flying while in ground school. But once you hit the line it is normally not an issue to drop trips that conflict with Guard flying.

It's not an issue of getting hired at a major from YV, you will, based on your own merits. It's an issue of climate and QOL while you're there. And God help you if you get stuck. But if you're sure you won't get stuck, and can suck it up, go for it. You'll want to have insight on the global economy and global geopolitical affairs so you can be confidant the music won't stop suddenly.

It's an "everything" thing.
