Cape Air in Guam...

Cape Air in Guam...
I am thinking of taking an interview with Cape Air for an FO position in the ATR-42 based out of Guam. I've always wanted the opportunity to do something crazy, or stupid, before settling down. I'm young, and single right now and need multi time.
If there's anyone out there that has flown, or is flying, for Cape Air in Guam... Or if there's anyone that has ever been to Guam (for a pilot job or not) please feel free to chime in on your experience. Ive heard little about the place so far and I want to make sure I know as much as possible before diving in. Thanks.

GUM is wicked fah away. I mean hell and gone. Its in the West Pac, closer to NRT, HKG, & MNL than HNL.
Its a hub for CAL because its cheaper to fly from NRT, spend a long weekend in a 5 star resort and golf for 3 days than it is to play one round in Tokyo.
If you dive, you must go. Some of the very best scuba on the planet is on CAL's island network. Palau, Yap, Truk, Ponhpei, Kosrae, Kwaj & Maj are the Micronesian islands CAL goes to. http://www.trip-n-tour.com/ Has some good information.
On the negative: Everything is more expensive. There are lots of snakes. It gets hit by typhoons regularly. Its wicked far.
On the positive: Its drop dead beautiful. Every CAL pilot I've talked to who's ever flow there loves the place. Its an opportunity you won't want to take when you're not so young or not so single. Cape Air is a nice place to work - everybody really likes being there.
Unless you've got family keeping you stateside, go for it!

I spent time over there in the navy...I was a diver and like robthree said the diving is fantastic, not just at guam but many other islands too. Plenty of great reefs and wrecks (and airplanes) from both world wars. The island itself can explored also (but watch out for WWII Japanese soldiers in the jungle...apparently they didn't all get the word about hiroshima ) Also it would be a good staging ground for fun trips to AUS and NZ.
The downside is distance from the US and the fact that the island's not that big and has pretty limited civilization, although there are a lot of Japanese tourists. Also some of the better spots are on the two US military bases, which you probably can't access unless you are military or family. The locals are not super-friendly (or super-useful in any way), and you might have trouble meeting eligible single women from your demographic. There used to be an awesome strip club though...the owner recruited the best talent from california/nevada and enticed them with huge bonuses. On that note watch out for the he-shes...that video clip about Glen Quagmire was NOT a figment of somebody's imagination I would say one year max, then island fever would set in, for me at least. The navy routinely sent folks over for three years, and by the end of that they were all ready to GTFO!
Oh, if you're female and don't mind dating sailors your social life should be just fine.
There's plenty of worse places you could go for a flying job...

The G-Spot and the Viking club are the two that I remember best.
We used to stay at the Outrigger Reef at Tumon Bay, and I thought it was fantastic.

Now, would I live there again? Only temporarily.
Typhoons, as mentioned before is a big threat. Guam gets hit regularly and the storms are pretty bad. Guam also gets earthquakes alot. I was there for an 8.2 one during my senior year in HS.
One thing not mentioned is the poor quality of health care there. Most locals fly elsewhere for treatment.
But there are alot of good aspects of Guam also. It has alot of natural wonders. I use to hike to an underground cave and swim in the freshwater pool. I wasn't into Scuba diving, most locals aren't because of the cost, but I did alot of snorkling when I went spear fishing and the reefs are beautiful.
As for the women, local females might be hard to get. They usually tend to go for local guys. Plus there's a big military presence, so you'll have alot of competition. However, there are a lot of female tourists. They're always looking for a good time.
If you're open minded and adventurous, you'll enjoy it there. But remember, although Guam is a territory of the US, it's like living on a foreign country. That means, no toll free numbers to the states, and last time I lived there, there was no live tv. Which meant, all the news I got on TV was a week old. BTW, I didn't realize that I never drank fresh milk until I left for college. People drink milk in those boxes that never age or need refrigeration.
