While that would be GREAT...it ain't gonna happen in today's ultra competitive contract regional carrier environment, with folks always willing to do it for less in order to get that fast upgrade.

Also, FO wages need to be at least 60% of CA wages. At that rate based upon the numbers thrown out by PinnacleFO, 3rd year FO rates (50/70) would be $45/48 and 5th year $51/54.

Those 70 seat scales would be equal or better than the 146 FO payrate under the 2001 AWAC contract...which would go a LONG way toward getting us all toward where we should be regarding hourly compensation.

They can afford it!!!!!!!!!!! Skyw 5 million share buy back = 120 Million +. DO the math. 120 million/10000 employees= 12,000 per employee. This is extra cash for one quarter.

Your right though, in a perfect world pilots would demand more.

Well, everybody's waiting for Skywest pilots to step up and get a big chunk of that pie so that pattern bargaining can start taking place again...

Default The RACE TO THE BOTTOM!

There will always be someone willing to do it for less. Just check out the crap they serve at Olive Garden. Check out the $1.00 deals at Wendy's Micky D's, etc. All this stuff is filled with "crap", (i.e fillers). Food companies put crap in their food to take up space. That's what airlines are doing.

Will people pay for quality? (YES!) Look at WFM (Whole Foods Market). Probably the most expensive groceries you will ever buy. BUT PEOPLE ARE BUYING THEM.

1) Does it cost more to take off on time and land on time (barrring weather)? YES! it does. You need more rampers, more gate agents, more fuelers, more mechanics, quicker flight crews, etc.

2) Does it take more people to lower the mishandled bags. YES it does. See reasons above.

Airlines have always been REACTIVE. One of the only airlines I know that is proactive is Southwest. Amazing, they are one of the few continually profitable airlines. They anticipate problems BEFORE they happen. Other airlines? Just take a look!!!

You got so many that are fat, dumb and happy, making 20-50k a year flying. They just don’t get it. They still think if they get their flights out on time there bonus check will increase. There hard work financed a stock buy back.

First step help them understand that they are severely underpaid and the company can afford to pay more.

Do you have your app in at CAL? This may happen in the future at JFK and other over worked stations. I read an article about limiting regionals into JFK after the JBL debacle.

But the public wants the ILLUSION of frequency even if it means cancellations and major delays caused by too many airplanes into too small an airport. Like LGA. Or hourly flights to ORD from a place like MKE when bi-hourly flights we more than suffice on a 737.

In Europe the airport authorities set a max number of movements per hour and capped it. Not that it is a utopia there, but there seems to a bit of a less of a race to the bottom over there.

Anyway, Mr. Rooski is right. There is no reason to flood the skies with RJs when small Boeings or Airbuses can do the same job every 90 minutes or 120 minutes more comfortably and cheaper than 2 RJs every 45 minutes.

But the genius MBAs who run the show don't get that for some reason.....
