Commute driving vs flying

Used to commute to EWR. 7 flights a day. But, it was EWR. Showing up 4 hours prior to report or sleeping in the crew room because of EDCTs got tiresome.
I swapped bases and now drive 3:40 one way. Not awesome, but I'd choose it over flying any day.

I've never been bumped out of my car.
I know my car's schedule.
Zero wasted time driving. Door to door times often the same.
Too tried to drive? Stop, nap or sleep then start driving again.
As long as you allow a reasonable cushion, most CPwill understand a delay due to a fluke situation.
Did I mention I've never been last minute bumped from my car.

No one wants to hear this, but if you want a well rested and relaxing 121 life you need to live within reasonable driving time from a domicile. Everyone's definition of reasonable is different, but I think 3 and 4 hour drives each way is probably too far. You may not be able to hold easy first and last days. If you are on reserve you would have to drive to base anyway because you could not make a 2 hour call out. The last thing you want to do is fall asleep and crash your vehicle on the way home. It always confused me why some guys would move mountains to work for a regional. It is simply not worth going to great lengths for.
