Default Lost logbook

About a year ago, my logbook and flight bag got stolen out of my car. At the time I had about 230 hours logged. Since then I've passed my commercial SEL and now I'm studying for my CFI. I remade my logbook from my previous checkride (instrument rating with 160 hours.) I was able to track down my old flight instructor and he re-endorsed my logbook. Will this prevent me from being hired at the regionals/majors?

No it will not, recommend starting a electronic log book as of yesterday too. I started using a combo of paper and electronic from the get go and I had my first logbook get stolen, it was closed out after I finished my last check ride (CFII) until ATP mins. Luckily I have a electronic and my newer logbook in a separate location. For my interviews, I just took my second logbook and printed out my electronic logbook plus my 8710 and police reports in a separate binder to prove that I had a logbook get stolen.

Collect all possible documents you can to validate your first 230 hours... receipts from rentals, flight instruction, etc.

Regionals won't care.

Majors won't care about the 230 hours. But they will want some re-assurance that you did not fabricate a bunch of hours during your training days. You'll want to bring all your documentation to any interview. You don't need to prove every hour, but you do want to have enough dots for them to connect.

As others said, start the e-lohbook today. Back it up offsite.

For your paper books, they need to stay in your physical possession or in a fire safe. If you live in the hood, get a safe-deposit box. Not worth losing a legacy job because of uncertainties about your logs.

Print up your old 8710s. Those are legal records of your flight that as your logbook was audited as part of the licensing process. That should help plug any gaps.

Your question has been answered, but I am going to say it again BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT. Start a electronic log NOW. The best, smartest money I've invested in my career was in logbook pro. Not saying that one is the best, but the CONCEPT is the best.

Seriously...do it.

Generate a logbook pdf file every month. Put it on a thumb drive someplace safe. Back up your log files off site. Remember, you're at the mercy of something electronic. Hard disks can and will fail. Back up is essential.

My hard disk crashed two months ago. Re-installed logbook pro and restored my back up. It was seamless. Electronic really is the way to go and believe me I was hesitant at first.

Also very important. I save my backups in Dropbox, then I email it to myself as well.
