If you want to live in the countryside and be based in DFW, look at the northern suburbs of Waco.

Airline service out of ACT, or you can drive about 2 hours from door to gate.

I second this. I have commuted out of many airports and SAT-IAH is the only time I've ever not made it in and had to call out. Mainline UAL guys show up in droves. I even operated several of flights on this route and honestly I can't remember not having someone in my jumpseat.
