Question NWA: Northbest or Northworst?

Now that Compass is showing up on this board, how is NWA preceived. Compass has a flowup agreement and many who choose Compass may be flying for NWA. Is NWA on your "Top 10" list or not on your RADAR. Is NWA Northbest or Northworst, let's discuss.

Does anyone have a copy of the "flow through agreement ?" Is it one way or two way ? Are minimums specified ?

I've only got second hand info about the agreement, but it's from a pretty good source.

I'm almost certain that it's a two way agreement. I don't believe that there are any furlough protections for the guys at Compass. Don't know if there are displacement/downgrade protections. Currently, NWA furloughees have first right to any openings at Compass.

The flow-up portions of the agreement allow Compass pilots to be placed into NWA new hire openings (without interviewing) after serving two years as a Captain. Currently there are no limits on how many pilots can flowup, but I know that the management at Compass had some concerns about that and were trying to negotiate some sort of "stop gate" if things ever allow massive amounts of flow-up. They were looking at something like "seniority witholding" IE, Captains, can only flow up at a certain rate, but if they could have been placed in a new hire slot (which was subsequently filled with an off the street newhire), they would be issued NWA mainline seniority in exchange for staying a Compass for an additional period of time (to prevent short staffing issues).

That's all I know though. I can try to get the language for you, but somebody else probably has more ready access to it.

here is some questions. If compass flows people up, but you dont work there and are hired by northwest, are you below people that work for compass on the master seniority list, and if compass gets sold(which it will), do you lose your flowthrough rights with NWA?

And there is my question. The whole thing sounds a lot like the USAirways MidAtlantic fiasco.

tell me where a flow through has ever been sucessful? even at eagle, very few actually flowed up. There is a double training cost. flow throughs don't work, and if they are actually used, only a small percentage flow through. in this case, nwa will hire 10 times more off the street than they will from compost. i know this because of 8 1/2 years waiting for "flowthrough" at eagle. . in short, if you want nwa, you have a better chance of going to skyw or chq and getting hired off the street.

unless you know something that I don't, there is no such thing at XJT. Nor is there such a thing at piedmont or PSA. Officially, only eagle at this point, but even that is backed up for quite some time. My advice to you is: DO NOT go to a regional solely because you heard of a "flow through". They don't exist, and when they do, they don't work. If you went to compost, you would most likeky NEVER be hired by NWA, as opposed if you went to CHQ or SKW e.g.

With the announcement of NWA's fleet plan and the high retirement rate over the next 10 years, I'm not sure a "flow-down" would happen. Who knows.

Barring another 911, I think the flow down will not be an issue. I hope they will be purchased by MAIR and they lose their court case. Then Mesaba pilots will definetly see the expansion we deserve.
