An interviewer keeping a logbook?

I have heard of stuff like this happening but I can't for the life of me figure out how they would verify that time if they wanted to. What are they going to do call every mom and pop FBO that someone has ever rented from?

I know that I could go back and verify every single one of my flights at my present job since I fly the same tail number every trip, and all of our flying is IFR, and therefore tracked. Sometimes simply doing a search through the FAA N-number registry and making one or two phone calls will do the trick.

He never found out what happened to the guy but it made me look at my logbook again though. One thing I have learned in my short 34 years of life is if someone can screw you, they will. I have no idea what "wipping numbers" looks like....lol

I didn't even know what "whipping" numbers was until today!

That's a good thing.
In all honesty, like everyone has said, if the book is under review...no biggie. You should have nothing to hide. If its a shady company, I probably wouldn't let the book out of my sight (and you probably shouldn't be working there cause its shady!). If its a good company, your going to be placing trust in them (maintenance, etc etc), so may as well begin the trust by trusting them with your logbook.
Now, if they say they want to keep it over night, I would simply say that I dont feel comfortable allowing it to remain here overnight, as its my only copy of my flight records. I would tell them that they're welcome to photocopy any pages that they want to, and they can use those to conduct whatever research / investigation they want.

This is a huge waste of time for the company. There is really no way to know for sure if the time was flown or not; excluding 121 and 135 ops, or you just made up a reg. number. If they thought it was padded they should just not hire the guy.
