Any idea how long it's taking from the first day of training till the the PC at this stage? Last I heard, there was a wait between sim and IOE of 2-5 weeks.
Sorry, don't know for sure. It's been 2 years since I went through. At that time, it was pretty quick. I think about 5 weeks from day 1 till PC. Then about a week till IOE. I heard they were short check airman, don't know for sure. That could be part of the problem.

XJT training is currently about 6-7 weeks, depending on instructor/facility availability.

The perdiem was recently cut to $1.55 per the new contract. Since this is not taxed it comes out to over $1,100 a month. Add it all up and your making $2,000.00 a month (after taxes!!) You also get your own room at a quality hotel with free wireless internet, shuttle, and hair dryer. That's right...your own personal hair dryer. Should we make more money? Hell Yeah! I just got my direct deposit today and it's all there.
haha you crack me up. you make more than 4 times that amount in the military!

So get this. I'm suppose to fly up to CVG on sunday to start training. I was suppose to get an email saying when my flights would be today. That has not happened yet, and I have no idea when I'm coming or if anything has been booked even. Can any Comair people give me advice on who to call? The HQ is shutdown for the weekend.

4 X $2000 = $8,000 after taxes ???????????

New UPT Graduate 2/Lt.
Base Pay $2416.00
Flight Pay $125.00
Subsistance $187.49
Housing $509.40

TOTAL: $3287.39 (before taxes on Base Pay and Flight Pay)
-28% $2366.93

close to the $2000 and a great distance from $8,000.

Both deserve higher pay. The 2/Lt. does not get 14 days off a month.

Saxman first congrats on Comair. Not sure if you have taken care of this or not but assuming you do have the class date, you may want to check with Delta or whoever flies out of your city at the airport. Speak to an agent and explain the situation. They may check the SUnday flight loads into CVG and see if you're listed as positive space. Of course take an ID, passport if you have it. If you're on the list they will activate you. I cannot promise this will work but its worth a shot. I do not have my phone list otherwise I would call Laurie for you. I think she still is in training. Good luck hope it works out.

Just wait until you start flying the line making $15,000 a year. See how that feels to you.

thats an active duty pay check? well since hes already flying a c-5 hes well past that stage. hes at least a 1Lt, so his base pay is 3000, flight pay about 150. housing allowance for a c-5 guardsman in NY is probably about $1500 non taxable, and as a guardsman commuting more than 50 miles to work you earn another $1500 in per diem. not to mention c-5 goes into tax free combat zones every month making your paycheck that much better, plus hostile fire pay, plus the $100 a day in per diem you get on your layovers in europe (2+ week trips in the c-5). now, that comes out to about 8000 a month.

Was trying to compare apples to apples: new comair FO / new active duty Copilot. The military pay system is so confusing (ANG Full time vs part time / USAFReserve full time vs part time, Full time active duty, etc, etc. )To study the system visit: http://www.dod.mil/dfas/

However:

Only full time active duty get a housing allowance.

The maximum housing allowance (Four Star General ) is $1429

Per Diem (TDY Pay) is based on location and is not a flat rate.

Can't collect double per diem (15 days home to work AND overseas)

Crewmembers pay for their rooms (Unlike most airlines) and meals.

Hazardous duty (combat) pay for 1/Lt. is $150.00

The bottom line is what you take home at the end of the month. I spent three years flying C-141s in and out of a combat zone. We often spent more then our per diem allowance on meals and rooms. In the end we were lucky to break even. The tax exclusion made life a little easier.

The flying experience was priceless.

i was trying to simplify it. nowadays it is extremely easy to bring home that kind of cash in the reserves or guard. you go on active duty orders for a few months so you get the housing allowance for where you live (ny/nj is around $1500), hit a two week tax free trip, and your golden. all hotel rooms are reimbursed by the government or on a contract no-pay like the airlines, per diem at almost all european destinations is over $100, some places are $150. i am no longer full time (hated it), but trust me thats how much you make.

true for a brand new Lt comparing that to comair makes sense. i just had to poke fun for him saying that it was good money after the kind of dough you pull down in a c-5.
