When I was flight instructing for a JAR school in Florida I was sending young (YOUNG) 19-20 year old kids to fly 737s for RyanAir in Ireland with only 250 hrs. Young successful pilots. Don't tell me or anyone else what low time is. I've seen it. And there training isn't that much different than ours. That completely nullifies the low time argument.

It may be so but it still doesn't make it right.

It is worth noting that while the traveling public votes with their money (as little of it as possible), most of them would be unpleasantly surprised to learn about 200-hour airline pilots. Our passengers really do believe that all jet airline pilots flew F-15's, fought in one of the gulf wars against swarms of Migs, graduated from top gun, have 15,000 hours and 500 carrier traps, and beat out 50 other fighter pilots for that airline job...which presumably pays at least $250K.

I agree that it might be worth shedding some light on the reality. Who knows, if some senator sees an opportunity to rabble-rouse and get some press we see might 121 FO's required to hold an ATP.

Or we can sit back and do nothing, and wait for a smoking-hole accident with a 200 hour wonder-pilot screaming for mommy on the CVR.

When an accident is attributed to a low time pilot, we will see a minimum requirement revolution.

The majority of those F-15 / F-16 F-18 pilots are under thirty and have less than 1,000 hrs.

Require an ATP certificate for Part 121 regional F/Os? That implies at least 1500TT.

Regionals can't even get enough 500-1000TT guys today, let alone ATP holders.

What guy already holding an ATP would seriously want to go to a regional? He's probably qualified enough to go to a corporate or fractional owner, or maybe even a major/legacy.

The regionals don't want to hire guys these low time, but to fill the spots open they have to.

I don't agree with putting ShaneJJ in a cockpit with people on aboard for at least another 3 years, but he will get hired within the next year.

Regionals would love to hired 1500/500Multi guys, but the pilots just aren't out there anymore guys.

BTW, no sub 400 hour pilot belongs in a cockpit of ANY regional airliner.

ShaneJJ,

It's not that I have something against you, it's just that you're way too low time of a pilot to be anywhere near an airliners.

I had 900TT/200+Multi when I got hired into the Saab and I was OVERWHELMED in sim training. If you think that you can fly a seminole on one engine, try flying the Saab sim with mutliple failures avionics, engines, cockpit fires, landing gear all while crossing the final approach fix.

Secondly, you're not a regional pilot now and you have no idea what you're talking about, so really- you should be reading not posting. There are 1000's of guys out there that read these forums and don't post.

I fly for CJC, I have 2200 hrs/1500 multi now based in IAH. I should upgrade within the next 3 months...but probably wont.

I will buy you the next round for that one! Just remember there are still a few of us out there that are not low time bottom feeders. The pool is very small now, I know, and will cont. to get worse. We most likely see a thread here soon about how ShaneJJ just got hired by Comair or something!
