Time away is a consideration. And thats why Im trying to figure it out. (The reality of how the airline goofy schedules work). my family and I are used to goofy. I fly part time contract for a UPS feeder (essentially for fun) and work 24 hr shifts 9 days a month at my full time job.
Actual face to face time im guessing will be almost a wash.
But I like being able to sleep at the end of the day and thats one reason Im thinking of trying my luck at an airline.
As I get older being up for what seems like days at a time gets harder.

The only base new hires are getting out of training at Skywest is DTW since Jan 15 class (CRJ speaking).
Base has blown up to almost 250 pilots now. If you were on IOE right now or done you'd be guaranteed a line. Don't get too confident you'll have the same luck. Look at ORD on the CRJ side. People said the same thing and nobody gets transferred in anymore. I haven't moved once in 4 months, probably will still bid reserve June.
Moral of the story: take this information with a grain of salt. You really can't predict the industry and bases. You will get DTW.....but how many transfers out of DTW will determine how long your reserve wait is. The standing bids for bases west coast are piling up in the 80's +. With the shrinkage of CRJ flying west, who knows when some of the new hires today will get their transfers.
At OO, the reserve is either 2 hr call our or 12 hour call out. You can also bid long call. So if you can drive it in 1:20, yes you can stay at home easily.
