ok maybe blacklisted is a harsh word. AA doesnt hire from AE not so much out of hatred (although theres probably a lot of AA guys that hate AE), but because the company itself thinks its inefficient to do so, to pull one guy out of one of your holdings and retrain him into another.
Delta blacklisting comair, however, is a different story. Thats based on pure hatred

That was the same reason CAL used to not hire as many XJT guys. As soon as we announced we were keeping the airplanes and the "Great Pi$$ing Match" began, CAL started hiring XJTers like crazy. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think they might have started doing that to impact our operations and cost us money training new hires.
Often the best path to a certain major is through their competitor's regionals.

It's due to the fact that when Delta started furloughing, the Delta MEC asked the Comair MEC to consider just asking Comair management to hire Delta furloughee's without making them give up their seniority number at Delta. The Comair MEC said "Nope, if you come here we want you to give up the number." I think the Comair MEC was hoping for some sort of seniority list merging, and making Delta guys drop their seniority numbers would have been a huge benefit to Comair guys, especially senior ones. Unfortunately, I think the idea of any regional combining lists with it's parent company is a pipedream at best. This is a big sore spot for Delta pilots and they hold a grudge against the Comair guys. That's all I know about it.

this is actually true. xjt can account for about 20 new hires at Cal every month and we are losing another 20-30 pilots to other majors. your going to have a few from every other regional or corporate but a majority are from xjt. it helps that some of our policies procedures are identical or extremely close to CO's.

I'm not sure about 30 a month, but with four to five classes a month, about 16 - 20 would be right. There were four from Express in my class of 16. Which means there where 12 from other companies (four turboprop regionals, one major, three military, one corporate, three other jet regionals). The mix changes class to class a bit, but from what I can tell it's still a mix from most sources.
I think the only reason there are a significant number from Express Jet is good internal CAL contacts. The one common denominator in all the classes is having a strong internal recommendation. Everyone in my class was recommended.

Though working for Express might help because of all the CAL jumpseaters we get.
