Default Another SKW Questions

Ok, so sometime in April is when I'll be throwing the ol' resume over to SKW.

With all the great amount of hiring being done there, unfortunately it seems I will be near the tail end of the hiring...especially if their hiring slows down drastically after the beginning of summer.

So my question to you is...even with the new aircraft theyre receiving, do you think that upgrade times will slow down enough / become stagnant to where I could expect to turn into a 3-4 year FO (CRJ), or more around a 1.5-2 yr upgrade for the brazilia?

I really hope that isnt the case, but just thought its worth asking the guys who work there!

it's a gamble you take going anywhere - I think SkyW would be a wise choice however..

When I interviewed last week they told us they need to hire 600+ over the rest of they year. I doubt they will be done hiring by summer.

Think I recalled reading that the 70/mo was going to continue until early summer, and will then slow down to around 40/mo.

but good to know about the 600.

Thanks for the replys.

Yeah I read that to, talked to a friend in the training department and he said there is no way they are filing the 70 per month quota so maybe that could extend the hiring.

They just told us in class that they’ll be increasing their projected hiring totals by 20 a month to 90 total for the next few months. They want to be between 2900-3000 pilots (currently 2550) by the end of the year and that takes attrition into account. Attrition is about 15-18 per month. Most all to the majors, the others are mainly retirement.

3000 total - 2550 (as of Feb 27) + 150 (15 x 10 months) = 600 my the end of 2007. That would mean that SKW is planning to hire approx 750 pilots in 07.

Also today SKW announced more Delta flying out of SLC. It wasn't much but it added 4 new destinations and stated "more destinations are to come." For more information see Skywest.com.

MY OPINION... is that they will transition bro guys whose seats locks are up June, July, August, September, etc. over to the jet and then hire for the bro after the summer. I am pretty sure that there is not a lot of hiring on the bro right now, maybe 10 a month in March and a few more in April? It appears as if a lot of flying out of SLC is on its way from Delta.

We currently have 20 a month leaving, and I think that will increase over the summer when United, Delta, American, etc. hire and recall respectively. So on top of people leaving and new flying, I think 3000 by years end it reasonable. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to get on here. Plus, who knows when it is going to stop?

I spoke with out ex-CEO when we at HQ buying some SkyWest t-shirts (hence the Koolaid Man). Anyways, he said they would like to pay us more but it doesn't fit into to their business plan. We all know they can pay us more, but why pay us more when they don't have to as the pilots voted in the most recent pay proposal? So my question that I wish I would have asked him was, "how much bigger are we going to get?" If they are "concerned" about our pay, and I believe that there was a LITTLE sincerity in his comments, then I assume we are to continue to look for future flying and continued growth.

Take it for what it is worth, nothing!

JetJock has it right... I'm in the school house and latest update is 750 pilots total...... Mostly Jet..... maybe a few in the bro..

As far as upgrades go.... that is anyones guess.... research where you want to go.... and throw the dice..... Best of luck to you.
