It’s been a consistent 7-8 years post Covid for a lot of people. I wouldn’t plan your career on the AA flow program. Having said that, I have flown with a surprising amount of captains that are planning to flow. Some are getting very close to flowing, some still have more than a year out. It’s a good backup for when the industry slows down, or if you have some checkride failures, lack of a degree, etc. etc. that might make getting hired elsewhere harder. I have also met many captains and even some FO’s that are pretty content with sticking it out and waiting to flow. They didn’t wanna take another job, whether that’s an LCC, cargo, or another major in hopes of applying direct to AA if AA is their dream. Granted they will lose out on a ton of seniority by ‘waiting’ for flow. But, everyone has their reasons. Some might like AA’s bases or they live in one and don’t want to move.

AA is really working hard to limit the number of flows. Only 9 months of hiring, but increasing class sizes is the current scheme. With 3 less classes, that is 30 less Captains that PSA is losing every year. So yes...8-10 years is a good guess.

2 years ags, there were times that PSA lost 50 pilots plus 10 to the flow for several months in a row . I can't imagine that is still happening.
