Does PSA prioritize cadets for ATP-CTP and Indoc based on when they joined the program or is it simply, first come, first served based on when you hit mins.

I believe its order when you signed the CJO. They then break it down by needs of company. This past winter, Cadets were passed up, or had classes pushed to make room for high time FOs and DECs. It now seems Cadets are being called to class for April/May but who knows if its a fluke or not. I do not have the numbers, but PSA apparently has a bad CA shortage. While its great to be in class and have a CJO, many of these new hire FOs at PSA will barely fly I'm sure.

Default New Hire background

Are most of the new hires coming from the cadet program? If not in the cadet program what does the timel line look like to get an interview with 1500 hours TT, 1000+ ME flying 135? If anyone has done this recently. Asking for a friend not on the forum.

Hiring has always been a black box, even when things were relatively steady state. (And this assumes that HR actually knew what they were doing and had a consistent plan - unclear if that was true)

But things are not steady state. AA financials are in the toilet, they're facing an FA strike, they suspended hiring for the year which means that 60 captains that won't flow. Piedmont just cancelled all classes, PSA slashed it's DEC bonus to $15K. Signs point to very limited hiring ... what factors they prioritize there, who knows. If I had to guess, 1500 hours of good experience might be a bad place. The 1500hr CFI's are't a flight risk. And the 1500 hour well-rounded folks are still 1500 hours. Why not take 2500?

I would advise your friend to move on all fronts, prioritize accruing TPIC and get the four year degree if absent. Corporate is (best I can tell) still starved for manpower after the majors vacuumed them dry. That might be a better step up than regional right now.

It’s hard to say what they are currently looking for, but regarding your friend, are the majority of those hours as SIC for the 135 op? If so, if it were me I’d try to upgrade at that operation if they haven’t already and build some TPIC. That kind of time absolutely does matter in this day and age, even though many tried to downplay it over the last 2-3 years during the major hiring binge. It may be tough trying to get noticed from any regional right now with those times and especially if it’s majority SIC time.

He has a little bit of SIC, maybe 100-130 hours. Aprox. 800-900 hours PIC in a BE-58 flying 135 cargo. More night than day. Only 15 hours or so of turbine time.
