Thanks in advance.
Envoy. MIA base. Might take a while but you'll be near where you work. 175 is an added bonus.

A friend just interviewed at Envoy and they were told “several month wait” on a class date.

I have an offer from another wholly owned but no class date in sight (at least 6 months), Envoy seems to be in the same boat and I think right about the time I’d be able to hold MIA I’d get Force upgraded to LGA RSV hell anyway.

I am looking at PSA due to availability of bases, flow is quicker than Envoy (back pocket), ‘decent’ pay (it’s a regional, all the pays suck...even at the best of them plus the chance of a new contract with you guys) plus it’s the quickest start date of my CJOs. Plus SAP, etc

Am I on the wrong track? Am I misreading the situation? I didn’t want to turn this into a “what regional do I pick” thread so my apologies for doing exactly that!

I don’t know if PSA has a faster flow compared to Envoy. At least I’d doubt that.
But I do commute from MIA/FLL. It’s not too bad. Some people will tell you it’s hell to commute from MIA...but I was never left behind.
As for commutable bases: Obviously CLT, DCA and from May on PHL.
I commute to DCA. Bunch of flights with AA from Miami and some flights with JetBlue from FLL.
CLT technically has more flights from FLL and MIA, but it takes a longer time to hold a line in CLT and loads seem to be higher to/from CLT compared to DCA.

Don’t hesitate to PM me if you have any additional questions.

Not trying to steer you away from PSA, all the WOs are great. But I am trying to steer you away from commuting. You're considering commuting in the long-term for a very short-term gain, to get in class sooner. While it may sound appealing to start sooner, you'll be regretting it years later when you are sitting reserve as a captain and commuting to a crash pad at a base you don't live in.

People move up class dates all the time, interview and give it a shot.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely give it some thought.

On the other hand many of us have been commuting for years and would tell you it’s not really that bad. I would rather commute somewhere that would offer me better quality of life than to live in base somewhere that didn’t.

Definitely a commuter here once the time rolls around. Pretending I had a choice initial between CLT and DCA, is there any way to check which is a better commute, or at least the lesser of two evils? Does a method exists to research historical or average flight load out of my local airport (VPS) to either of those bases?

Both have daily service, but CLT definitely gets more flights. It would not be amusing (well, maybe the first time) to end up two hopping through CLT to get to DCA...

VPS-CLT has at least four flights daily. VPS-DCA only has one flight and it's not daily, only a few flights per week. The VPS-CLT flights are all PSA 700/900s giving you top priority for the jumpseat unless another PSA pilot beats you. Not many PSA VPS-CLT commuters either, you should be number one for the jumpseat 95% of the time. You can't look up historical load factors, but I would not worry about that. 80% of the time, you will probably get a seat and when it's full, the jumpseat is yours.

CLT is almost always an easier commute than DCA...
