Default New Hire - Simple Transition Program

Since I started interviewing new hire pilots at PSA about a year ago, we have been trying to put the best pilots in the seats at PSA. We have increasingly been getting pilots coming to PSA from other regional airlines, so-called "lateral transfers". These are some of our best pilots. We have hired hundreds of pilots since early 2014 that came from other airlines, some that went out of business, others that wanted something different.

We have been working with these pilots to make the transition to PSA as smooth as possible. With that in mind, we have attempted to streamline the transition process for current 121 pilots and make it more official.

It really doesn't have a name yet, but we have been referring to it as a "simple transition program". I am sure that something more official and creative will be announced at some point, but that is what the interview and application team are currently calling it.

Simply put, if you are a current 121 pilot at another airline and want to come to PSA, we will make it easy for you. We will conduct Skype interviews if you want(some restrictions apply), no written test, and can offer you a class date in as little as 4 days from applying. You pick your class date, and you have first choice at it.

In addition, anyone that has a CL-65 type rating gets an extra $5000 bonus.

Another attractive item is that once you are given a class date, you are immediately eligible to start getting the referral bonus of $5000 for each person that you refer. You don't even have to start class to be eligible and refer someone. So, if you and your buddy want to come to PSA, one of you could apply, once you get the offer, you can refer the other person. He/she could then apply the same day, get a Skype interview the following day, and you will get the $5000 bonus. You can both start in the same new hire class. Split the bonus or keep it all for yourself. Whatever you want.

I am absolutely not trying to go after pilots at other airlines, but we know what is going on in the industry and we want to make sure that if anyone wants to come to PSA, we will make it as easy as possible. We respect the experience that you have, and understand that the transition can be difficult. We truly want to make it easy.

PSA is a great choice for some people. For others, it is not the best option. It depends on your situation. If you determine that PSA is the right choice for you, we will make it easy. You have been in the industry and you know what is important to you. I am not going to try to recruit you or sell you on PSA.

All of the pilots on the interview team are line pilots that have been with PSA at least a couple of years (2-4 years). We like helping other pilots out that need help.

If you are going to apply, contact me and I will make sure that your application is pulled quickly and we make it as easy as possible. If I am not on here (since I do fly and am less likely to check this when I am working), talk to the other PSA pilots on here. Most of them know me and have my contact info. They can call/text and I will get you taken care of.

Make sure to get someone to refer you BEFORE you apply so they can get the bonus as well!

Haha, are you kidding you absolute rat, scum poaching puppet?

Impending pilot shortage, regional pilot candidate pool drying up and PSA thinks it is morally acceptable to poach pilots from other carriers. Absolutely repulsive and yet another mark on your companies disgraceful track record of past.

Shame on you.

Lets see, you are losing your job and they will help you get another one quickly. You can start immediately. Make extra money. And end up in a much better situation. What am I missing?

He didn't even try to sell the company in that post. He said if you want to come to PSA, they will make it easy. If you don't want to come to PSA, don't. If you take offense to that, then you are obviously an overly sensitive snowflake.

In fact, isn't that what pilots should be doing for each other?!?! It is a lot like the "distressed carrier" tag that ALPA can put on you. If you are in a bad position, other union pilots are supposed to help you get another job.

Delta is poaching pilots from the AA wholly owned regionals. Is that "morally acceptable"? Delta is hiring more PSA pilots each month than are flowing to AA, and Delta is loving it.

Every airline tries to attract other airlines pilots. I get post cards in the mail nearly every week, as well as emails and phone calls. At job fairs, I will have recruiters try to get me to leave PSA to go to their airline, especially Envoy. It happens all of the time.

I was hesitant to post this because I was worried about coming off as trying to "poach" other pilots. That is not my intention and I apologize if I came off that way.

I interview pilots every single week that came from other airlines and I have done so for the last year. We did not "recruit" them. They chose to come and interview at PSA. I understand that it is a big decision, and it can be stressful.

What we hope to offer is an easy way to come to PSA if, and only if, you want to come here. If you are a current 121 pilot, we won't make you go buy a new suit, study for 2 weeks, take a day off of work and come and interview (in most cases - there are exceptions).

I do not get any bonuses to recruit people. No referral bonus. I do not have a quota. Nothing like that. If you want to come here and are qualified, I want to help you get here as painlessly as possible. I want to work at an airline that has good pilots that want to be here.

It's kinda poor timing, or correct timing depending on your timing. XJT just got kicked in the nuts, which makes you kinda sound like a carpet bagger, unless your claiming you didn't know.

You should sweeten the pot Skype interview, seniority and longevity until they choose a class date two years from now when they can bid upgrade.

Not really sure why folks are jumping down PSAs throat for... the AA wholly owned regionals have been providing opportunity for many folks who's careeers have deadended or faced potential job losses at contract carriers.

Does it suck yes, but it's a lot easier to face uncertainty with a job at one company knowing you've got options that you can execute tomorrow.

Significant portions of new hire classes at the AA Owned regionals are retread FOs from other companies already. The folks at PSA just made it easier for pilots in distress or pilots who want career growth and an escape plan from the regionals to get another job... they're not the enemy.

Yeah except they can't give out things like seniority and longevity without union approval, so that's probably a no go
