Piedmont is using three different flight schools for Military Transition and Rotor, so no waiting. SkyWarriors in Pensacola, Infinity in NJ and one in KY that I can't remember. Piedmont is also paying for housing, I think, if you need it.

Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it!

I would still like to hear what others think, particularly if anyone has done the commute from PHL before.

Question is, should I choose PSA, am I crazy for choosing to commute over driving to work? How commutable are the PSA bases from PHL and does anyone on here have any experience commuting from PHL?

Thanks in advance!
Go on Passrider.com and look at all the flights between PHL and the base you would want to have.

I'm probably in the minority here though; I purposely left helicopters and joined 121 just so that I could live wherever I wanted and commute in. IMHO commuting ONE leg to a line is way better than sitting reserve. I don't know about other regionals - reserve at PSA is a special kind of hell...

I drive from Lancaster area to DC. Hasn't been so bad so far.. about 2.5 hours. Screw flying to work.

For anyone who has gone through CTP lately, what do they focus on during the four days of ground? And how long are the days?
What I'm really wondering is does it prepare you for the ATP written at all and is there time to study or do you need to be completely ready for the written before showing up for CTP?

You will go to class every weekday. It will NOT prepare you for the written. Getting yourself ready is your only homework. You can prep early or do it at the hotel after class every night like most do. Doesn't matter. You take the written right after completing the course.

Question for the masses- how long after being offered a job at PSA (assuming a successful interview) can one expect to start class? How long can one defer start dates for if they chose to do so?

Also, how long is the reserve call out for a place like DCA?

Thanks!

You can get the next class. They have them every 2 weeks. You can defer till you're ready but you're letting dozens of others in front of you. DCA is junior but still new and not a lot of lines so it's hard to tell.

If you receive a CJO and you do not select a class date right there, you can differ up to six months. If you have started class by then, you would have to interview again.

In my case, they didn't have class dates out to when I thought I would be available so I differed and was put in their pool. Once I knew my availability date, I emailed and asked for the next class date after it.

As stated, the CTP course does not prepare you. Most guys study Shepard Air (or some other prep software) in class and at night. You finish the CTP course on Monday and if you want they will give you a ride to a test center on Tuesday to take the test and the test center will give you a ride to the airport.

The other option is that you fly home on Monday after your last simulator and take the test sometime before you head to Dayton. This worked well for the military folks that have access to free testing as you have pay for your own test.
