There's 4 direct flights from DFW. Not many but there's some.

What would you recommend for a commuter? I was thinking TYS cause I could park my travel trailer at an RV park with my motorcycle and that would be my crash pad and transportation if I had to endure reserve for a while. I'm taking a massive pay/QOL cut from 91 so I am having to use all my resources. PSA seems like the best choice right now over envoy since I'll be stuck at the bottom of the seniority list for years at LGA/ORD with a very low chance of getting DFW anytime soon.

You will have very little competition commuting DFW-TYS. 4 direct flight is pretty good. I only have 3 and it works out 95% of the time. At most I have to sit around for a few hours.

TYS doesn't have HRV. They instead have a 1 hour call out for SCR. If you don't mind sitting in your travel trailer all day or staying at least 30/45 minutes riding time to the airport.

I know a few guys who commute DFW-DAY with no problem. There’s 3-4 flights a day and a couple are on mainline. DAY is junior too, so you’d spend little time on reserve. Food for thought.

Nice thing about TYS is I can drop my travel trailer about 20 minutes away and have my motorcycle to get back and forth to the airport for when I'm on reserve... Weather isn't great during the winter but it's the best bet and closest to DFW.

On another note. A buddy of mine at envoy and on a trip said his captain wouldn't let me jumpseat on his plane? Wtf is that all about? Back when I flew 121, the jumpseat coordinators would be all over that, especially on a codeshared jumper.

Please share his name. He would be in a lot of trouble with both AA and ALPA. A few guys tried to do that, and a couple lost their travel privileges for it.

I would if I had it. I was dumbfounded someone would even say that. I haven't kept up with the 121 regional world since 2012 so I have no idea what may or may not have transpired between envoy and PSA pilots (I do remember the TSA and GoJet feud). I just never understood why you would treat a fellow pilot like that trying to get to work for effectively the same parent company or going home to be with his family.

WOW, I've only been denied JS by SkyWest several times because of "Weight and Balance." Envoy flew all the flights between my hometown and ORD when I had to do a 2 leg commute through ORD, and during the 3 or 4 times I had to ride up front, they were mostly cool.

That being said, if they deny you just because you're with PSA (not to mention, it's a sister company..) be sure to get the name of the crew and let ALPA know.

I've been told by several friends at Envoy it's best to commute without your ID badge showing. Even better is to be out of uniform.

It saves you the harassment from crew if they see you're PSA.

I'm not sure that I would ever call someone that ignorant a "friend".

There were a handful of pilots that were butthurt that they got screwed, and blamed it on PSA. A few try to keep it alive. Anyone with any sense at all saw it for what it was, and knows that this pilot group has nothing to do with that anyways.

My parents live out in Dallas and I’ve non-rev’d on Envoy from DFW-TYS. Even had to ride the jump a couple of times. I’ve had no issues with being denied the jump or dealing with rude crews. Right now all the flights are split between Skywest, ExpressJet, and Mesa. Haven’t seen a 175 in TYS in a few months.
