PBS is what everyone wants because they are seeing what’s coming over the next 5-10 years. There aren’t enough pilots. The regionals are feeling the pain right now, but the other corners of the airline industry aren’t immune. One way to combat the shortage is to maximize efficiency. PBS is just one more tool to do that.
My question is when you say "everyone" wants it who is "everyone"?
Wouldn't it be better to just increase all salaries across the board instead of having a carrier find a new way to "maximize efficiency" on the backs on their pilot group?

I'm not saying it's good or bad one way or another. From my understanding PBS can be manipulated to work in favor of the pilots or against them. It all depends on how your specific contract allows the algorithms to be affected. Delta's version may not be the same as Endeavor's or what Spirit wants to implement.

When I say “everyone” I’m referring to airline managment all across the board. And you’re comparing apples to oranges. Increasing salaries and implementing PBS solve completely different problems. Salaries help with attraction and retention. PBS helps with scheduling efficiency. Raising pay alone will not achieve the efficiencies that managment is in search of.
However my original response was to your statement saying there aren't enough pilots, which is incorrect. There are plenty of pilots available that have been flying part 135 for years and didn't want to make the switch because of the abysmal salaries being offered by regionals. Now that there is a demand and salaries are going up, a lot of the slots at regional and mainline carriers are being filled with those guys and there are plenty more to be had. Just because there aren't enough newb's to aviation to go to a regional don't get those apples confused with the oranges that are available.
