Can someone elaborate on what has happened with a new LOA? I'm looking to join PSA in November because of the flexibility that sap affords r1 pilots. If that were changed, I would not/will not be coming to psa. Please help before I commit! Thanks.

If you already have a class date in November, haven't you already committed?

It is not a big deal at all.

The company doesn't want people to use SAP to take off large amounts of time during the holidays. So, they are experimenting with holiday pay for Thanksgiving.

Long story short, it you are willing to not SAP down to minimum credit in November and are willing to work Thanksgiving as part of your R1 line, then they will pay you 200% for the Thanksgiving holiday. They don't want us to SAP down to 65 hours, work the holiday and get paid 85 hours while still having 18 days off.

It is total garbage. People are just going to SAP it off, and when the company can't cover flying, they will institute 200% pay afterwards anyways.

It is an experiment, and I doubt many people are going to fall for it. It is one of those cases where they are going to try to see how little we will settle for. For Christmas, expect them to just pay 200% for any trip that you work over the holidays without any of the carveouts that this LOA has.

It has nothing to do with giving up SAP. We gave up nothing for it. The good part is that anyone that wants to make the extra money can, and those that get a R2 line can make more.

The LOA only pertains to Thanksgiving 2017 holiday pay. Some are happy with it and some are not.

Come to PSA...it's still great. This is just a minor internal item. The SAP and R1 are still secure. PSA is a stable company, with excellent schedule flexibility for line holders, fast upgrades (less than a year now if you want it and have the 121 time), decent pay, and continuing growth. Good people too...

If I had to start over, I'd come here again...

Thank you for the clarification. Until I am sitting in Indoc, there are options. I'm planning on coming to PSA in November and not driving the hour from southern Wisconsin to ORD to be with Air Wisconsin. Some think I am crazy, but having flexibility with schedules is my number one priority.

People need to realize that if they have a class date, and have signed a conditional offer, they are burning serious bridges by backing out later to go elsewhere.

Being a "no show" for class, or cancelling less than a week before and causing an empty seat (especially when there are waitlists that could have filled it if you cancelled earlier) can have serious implications later in your career.

If you don't know that you are going to take the class date, just call and tell them to put someone else in it. There are pilots on a waiting list for those class dates. I can't imagine that there are too many pilots that have a November class date that live in Southern Wisconsin, so it should be pretty easy for everyone to figure out who you are anyways.

Sorry if I upset anyone. My point was that if there were a major change in policy, like voting out SAP for instance before my class date, I would need to reconsider. Especially as that is specifically the reason my husband and I think this is the right company for our family. I'm looking forward to joining you all in a few weeks.

And if there were a change that major before starting class don’t think that you would be the only one calling to cancel. That would be a “game-changer” for PSA and our recruiting efforts. No one would think less of anyone else for rescinding their acceptance of a class date if the terms for which they agreed to work were suddenly changed.

All that being said, there is no current change to the SAP. The LOA everyone is referencing specifically relates to the Thanksgiving 2017 holiday. And the LOA does not prevent anyone from SAPping off for Thanksgiving.

Not sure which base you are going to take (you can get any of them before the end of training) but if its CLT you won't have SAP for the better part of year. I was a January 2017 hire and didn't get R1 in CLT until October. Most other bases are usually around a month or two. SAP is one of the biggest reasons why I came to PSA because I haven't had control of my schedule for 6 years. Only complaint I've had is the reserve rules need some work, other than that its been great and I've met and flown with a lot of really wonderful people. Welcome!
