Looks like you have 2-3 flight a day, with one at 6am and a red eye. 2-3 return flights a day at about 930am, 3 and 6 pm. The sap is an incredible thing to have and changes everything. But you're definitely gonna have a no fun commute. And that's just to Charlotte, not to mention what you'd have to do when you initially start at the other bases. Depends on your life if it's worth it or not. Do you have a family and kids? Cause some 4 day trips are gonna be 5-6 if you can't commute the same day and need hotels on both ends. So even if you drop to 18 days off, your looking at using a chunk of those for commuting. Lot of options to weigh out. If you can't do that I'd look into horizon or SkyWest. Again, can't fully answer without knowing what you're willing to do and sacrifice.

I'm a retiring military rotary wing aviator and will be entering the 121 world in my late thirties. Having a QOL is a big part of my decision but I also want to move onto the majors at some point. I hear horror stories of people not getting picked up by the majors for whatever reason and wonder if age will be a factor. A flow is a nice backup just in case.

I know a few pilots here who commute from the west coast. Reserve will suck but you won't spend a ton of time on reserve so you won't have to worry about it for long. Once you hold a line and can utilize the SAP you can tailor your trips to your needs/schedule so it would definitely be doable. Def not the easiest commute though.

Don't know if you saw, but PHL has been long rumored as the next PSA crew base. If you're just now shopping for a regional to fly at and live in PHL...I'd recommend getting in before an official announcement.
There are already lots of turns and deadheads being built in the schedule for PHL...a good sign that the rumors of a new base are more than rumors...
If you want to fly a 145, than Piedmont is likely a good choice as well. But in PHL, I really wouldn't look further than the two (PSA and PDT) AA W/O carriers. I cannot believe that Envoy would open a PHL base anytime soon...
