Attrition is really picking up, especially with Captains, Sim Instructors, and LCAs. It seems like I get a message every other day from a different friend that is going to a major airline. I hope to join gen soon.

This is great news for pilots or property, because not only are they moving up the list, there are more upgrades and more people are able to be LCAs or sim instructors if they want.

Except that management will use the continued loss of Captains as a reason to keep from increasing the flow!

And as PSA's head cheerleader, I seem to recall that you were telling potential new hires that the flow would increase from 5 per month to 8 per month by the end of this year. Still think that? Still trying to "sell" that to recruits?

My comment was that we would hit 7 this year, and 8 early Spring of next year. I was basing that on our union's totals and the idea that they were strong enough to get the company to live by their agreement.

It looks like the union's numbers were wrong, or they are not able to get the company to abide by their agreement.

Not selling it to anyone, just stating facts. We have had over 200 upgrades so far this year. We will be well over 300 total upgrades in 2017. That should have been enough for 2 additional flows, even with increased attrition. So yes, my statement was true based on all available evidence.

Instructors are going to hit the flow hard this fall and spring. Multiple check airman and instructor classes for the foreseeable future.

The flow and increase is based on the total number of active captains but who is considered an active captain?

The CLT captain eligibility list for August lists 284 captains eligible to bid. Under the actual bid award, 63 CLT captains were ineligible to bid out of 312 CLT captains, leaving 249 eligible captains. That's a difference of 35 and probably why the company and union are not agreeing on numbers.

Have a buddy whose and LCA there (been so for the last 2 years) and is flowing after his 10 year mark so flow times are coming down.

I think one is basing the numbers on active captains and the other is active line flying captains.

From the LOA;

"Active Captain" is fully qualified on all aircraft variants as a Captain, has completed captain IOE/OE, and is eligible to bid a monthly schedule as a Captain

The captain eligibility list is not accurate and overstates the number of active captains that qualify towards the flow LOA. Review the round 1 and round 2 CA bid awards to determine who counts as an active captain. Line qualified sim instructors don't count.

Does anyone know what the official number of active captains was on January 1st, 2016?
