I guess you can't tell an unbolded sentence from a bolded one.
Might also explain why you're no longer at PSA. You pay back that 15K yet?
FYI, in your class there were 24 new hires, with 4 no longer on property. That's exactly half the percentage you claim they're washing out.

Best advice I can give is cross check the landmarks on the chart with your altitude. Snowflake works well too. FERGI direct to a 1 mile final visual approach to 19 in the FMS works great, as long as you don't follow that course exactly.
To the noobs, don't be afraid to ask questions, and when you're flying it keep your Captain in the loop on your thought process. Basically talk yourself down through the approach so the CA knows there's some thinking going on in that noob head of yours. You'll do fine.

Judging by the fact that we have a very junior base there, I imagine lots of noobs are doing that every day just fine.

Uncouple the autopilot, lookout the friggin window and handfly the dam thing. You should be able to do that as well.In my opinion, pilots nowadays are too dependant on automation.

While you're not wrong, you gotta get the transition on the arrivial to load somehow. And in a busy airspace with a lot going on maintaining a high SA is a good thing. It's obvious that that's an approach that's hand flown, but that doesn't mean that having some indicators to cross check is a bad thing.

(You would be blamed anyways, but use what you have).
Would you ever say "I can tell how fast I am going by looking at the trees going by, just go ahead and cover up my airspeed indicator? Or, "I can tell how high I am on short final, go ahead and pull the breaker on my RA"? Absolutely not! No one would.
Use what you have.
The River Visual is a lot of fun once you realize it is not hard and although it is something to respect, it isn't hard.

Tailhook, just because you are an older guy don't think you can't hang. I have been back at a regional for several years after being away, and had to refresh at first, but flying is flying. None of the older guys washed out but we have a great training program. Lots of other older guys can remember how to turn on the lights. Just make sure you ask lots of questions from pilots currently actually in training to get a feel for the training program before you choose a company.

I just got off of IOE and I'm still trying to figure a few things out with bidding. Once you hold a round 1, how easy is it to pick up 1 and 2 day trips and pair them back to back? For instance, instead of picking up a four day trip where you will be in a hotel for 3 of those nights you could instead pick up two, two day trips that run back to back so you can have an extra night in your on bed. Is this even realistically possible to do?
