PRK Surgery | Do I have to update my medical?
Hello everyone,
I'm having PRK eye surgery done on December 17th of this year, so just a little less than 2 weeks from now. Upon completion of my eye surgery, will I have to update my medical? I'm assuming so. If so, how long afterward? Must it be an all-new medical, or can the doctor just update the vision portion?
I have an FAA Class I medical certificate.
Thanks!

In the past you needed to get cleared by an AME before you return to flying. I think this has changed, but there are some specific requirements that must be met and documented before you return to flying
You might want to talk with an AME before your surgery, I know your vision has to stabilize and I believe that can take several weeks or more.

Thanks rickair, I'll get in touch with my AME. My ophthalmologist said it usually takes 2-4 weeks before "he would let me fly" (by the time my vision stabilizes 100%), but obviously he wouldn't have the final say since he is not an AME.
