Yes, word on the street is after the first Sept class, AA has held up, no last Sept nor either of the Oct classes. Scheduled to have 2 Nov classes of 44 each. No Dec class was ever planned due to the holidays. This will result in 649 new hires for the year. The plan was 750.
Why? The Schoolhouse is backed up. In addition to new hires, they have to train a lot of MD80 pilots to fly other equipment. The end of this year and into next all the MD80s will be retired, creating about 855 pilots needing training. Plus the usual upgrades and equipment changes.
In a couple of years, when the big quantity of retirements hit, the Schoolhouse will have to be expanded to handle a lot more than today.

I don't see regionals as we know it lasting.. if United ALPA holds scope this upcoming year.. things are going to change real fast... delta is in position with the c series order... American is hoping their WO will cover more and more , but the expense is high..
Kirby at United is playing his same games... the next 6 months as the airlines scramble to get ready for next summer is critical..
Things are going to get crazy everywhere... the winner will be who can poach the most pilots from the competitor and train them efficiently.

Sooo word on the street is 9E is about to announce a new contract with their 23,000 (across the board) pay bonus rolled into pay rates without concessions. This would be huge for us to follow in January...

When Pilots are the tightest commodity, having a 25:1 ratio (50 seat RJ) is going to look ridiculous compared to 60:1 (120 passenger A319).
As regional airline FO pay starts to approach mainline (eg AA pay for E190), then the regional model we have now is obsolete....
Boom!
The pilot projection numbers we see here dont even address the demand from China.... It IS going to be a hot mess indeed

The bar is raised now and other regionals will have to compete or risk not covering flying as the retirements start to come in.

United CEO states the China numbers are staggering and compensation could approach 500k to fly overseas.
