Piedmont Airlines News & Rumors

I doubt very much the shareholders interests matter other than the big shareholders, Parker, Isom and the rest of the "team"
Thats why he piled billions into stock buybacks which evaporated and caused a liquidity crisis when Covid came to town.
Piedmont is a sizable Maryland employer. Parker knows he will have immediate trouble from the Maryland politicos if he cans Piedmont.
The same people could make it difficult for a JBlu transaction down the road if it were to be an option. It's simply easier not to rock the boat.

Right but what you have to keep separate in your mind is that we are not talking about PDT as the whole company, but rather the small department of flight. Remember PDT is a ground handling company with a small flight department. A flight department that can very easily be combined or spun off into something else while keeping PDT as a whole company around.

Vanguard owns 9.1% of AAL and Parker, as the largest individual shareholder, owns 0.4%, so I'd say the institutional shareholders are the ones with the leverage. They want earnings per share.
Also, I looked it up and Piedmont only hires 220 people in Salisbury, and it's pretty far down the list in an already small town:

I also don't think the majority of those jobs are high paying, so I can't see congressmen falling on their swords for PDT.

AA is maxed out on scope and your jungle jets aren’t cycle limited. Getting rid of your 50 seat flying is a reduction in seats available in the AA system. You’re certainly a filler, but that’s what Piedmont has been pretty much since 38 seat turbo props fell out of fashion. It’s a weird spot to fill but there really isn’t anyone else to do it. I wouldn’t be worried

I can pull the exact verbiage from the contract tomorrow if you’re interested, but that’s about it. There are also requirements for international block hours but not really applicable here.

The total number of RJs is limited to 75% of our narrowbody fleet. Large RJs (between 66 and 76 pax) are limited to 40% of our narrowbody fleet. Both are limiting, so if AA wants to maximize the number of large RJs (they currently do) that means there’s room for a number of small RJs equal to 35% of our narrowbody fleet.

Y'all keep perpetuating this merger/closure rumor that's been going on since before any of you were hired. Five years ago it was "not enough pilots, merge with envoy" now its "save money, merge with PSA". Mergers aren't cheap and take a LONG time. The industry changes pretty drastically every few years and yet the number of wholly owns has remained the same..... But by all means, continue on. Can't wait to see what the rumors are in 2025 when all three companies still exist as they are now.
