I'd think such a decision would be more knee-jerk reactionary than part of a grand scheme, so even a former CEO probably wouldn't have any idea.

Doug Parker made a very good paying position for Lyle Hogg after the USAirways American merger. Lyle Hogg was largely displaced from the New American flight administration in favor of Legacy AA flight management. He is very close to Doug Parker, and has a very clear idea of the future of Piedmont. Piedmont Airlines will continue to independently operate. It's been around far longer than most of you have been on this earth. And I would bet Hogg continues to have a decent relationship with the current management, especially Bruce Galleron, if he s still employed.

I'd bet anything we wouldn't have separate flow numbers, if the theoretical merger ever happened. We'd just get shuffled into the other WO and flows would be by DOH.
There's no telling what's going on behind the scenes, but I'd assume the reason Piedmont still has a flight department is as simple as "we make AA money." I do find it concerning that other airlines are retiring their 50 seaters (including AA), yet there isn't even a rumor that we'll get a new airframe, and that whole process would take several years just to get certified through the FAA. Our planes are old, they probably go through 10 pressurization cycles a day, and if we have one fleetwide maintenance grounding that's not financially feasible to fix, I don't know what'd happen.

I concur, just wishing on hopium here. I keep hearing Envoy which makes the most sense but then again that rumor has been here for years. I too find it odd that everyone is retiring their 50 seaters and there is no fleet replacement plan for us at the moment, if ever.
There is definitely a plan, or at the very least an outline of the future. AA spends tons of money and pays people to make the plan. As someone said before, they will deny and say they don’t know anything until the day they announce something.
If you keep your eyes and ears open you’ll get a sense that there are clearly things going on in the planning stage. I think as of right now they are just kicking the can down the road for the rest of 2021 until next year when travel is “normal” and more stabilized.

or a place where he knows everyone and his son will get special treatment and PDT will love it since they can write a BS PR article about it “following in his father’s footsteps” and put it on the website and in the news…. beats the articles about a CP emailing the pilots saying they can’t be released from work to get vaccinated….

I think a lot of you forget how much Piedmont has accomplished in just the last 5 years. What was once a small mom-and-pop shop flying turboprops has become the premier operator of the E145 in the world. Piedmont's operation will likely be studied in top-MBA programs to mentor future business leaders.
What's more is that the Piedmont pilot group is highly regarded. You can immediately tell a Piedmont pilot apart from any other airline in a crowd because of their professionalism and high standards.
