Piedmont Airlines News & Rumors
#5751
I’m not sure how following seniority order effects the companies bottom line at all? Pick 10 down to 1, or 4,1,7,3,9 etc. They still got 10 people to use.
But it’s an airline industry norm everywhere else. It’s just a poorly worded contract (probably unintentional) that happens to allow the company to use less effort, therefore giving them leverage. But it’s kind of ridiculous to give them leverage on an industry norm....like so many things Piedmont. i.e going from 90m to 2h call out took way to long to get and we had to use the booming (at the time) market just to finally attain it.
I’m quite certain they don’t care about CS working slightly harder and not spending any more money that would make the pilots happy. But it’s free leverage they have, and that’s why it won’t change.
Heaven forbid they do something to garner good will and ‘waste’ leverage. That said....the TSV was a glimpse at the companies good will, though you could still argue it is to save them money retraining etc. and being more mission ready should things pick up suddenly.

If we are adversaries, they yes, I don’t want you to attain that thing you want, because I could use that as leverage against you in the future. But shouldn’t we be on the same team? What is that saying about valued employees go above and beyond and the whole team wins and the entire product is bettered?
You original quote mentioned a detriment to the company. Us attaining an industry norm, is no detriment to them. Just potential loss of leverage in future adversarial battles...

It goes like this: you get called out for a trip on reserve. You look and see someone junior to you should have been assigned that trip. You call and complain, taking up their time (I know how tight pigmont runs their sched department, there’s only room for four desks lol). For the sake of the argument, imagine this takes place during a non-Covid summer when thunderstorms are blasting Philly.... gets ugly quick.
Now imagine they have to award premium in seniority order. Same situation as above, except someone junior to you got awarded premium and flew said trip. Now they have to pay you premium as well as the guy who actually flew the trip.
Beside all the hypotheticals, it absolutely is adversarial between the union and company many times. During negotiations, 100% of the time.

Be honest. How many times does this actually happen versus when they do it for reserve? I doubt you can count the times this has happened with one hand. Premium has been given on a first come first serve basis.

ahh yes, through the “premium available” tweet that all pilots saw.
I’d say for the most part you’re correct, but they do/did have their pilots who would never say no and get the call for prem available before anything else. not very fair if the entire pilot group doesn’t have a grab at it and can’t put their name in the hat to actually have their seniority factor in.

If your contract said it must go out in seniority order, it would happen all the time for last minute coverage issues. There is even an app at aa that has a function that alerts you when this happens, and it’s frequent. Not sure your point but hope this covered it

Nah, the latest is we are pulling out of ORD in early March because Envoy is un-furoughing everyone, but we MIGHT get some JFK milk runs just to squat on some slots if they reinstate slot control. Happy New Year!

Envoys unfurloughing has nothing to do with anything. They will sit home and wont get requalified.
