I don't think it's anything that'll be grieved, it's more that the two sides came to an understanding. The handful of pilots were within their contractual rights to game the system the way they did, and the company was within its contractual rights to stop OWP and reserve day swaps the way they did. Now we've reached an agreement that's gonna benefit both sides- the 80% of the pilot group that's on reserve will get OWP and day swapping back, and the company saves some money on labor costs. Sure, the few guys who were playing the system lose the ability to do so, but what was it that Spock said about the greatest good for the greatest number of people?

Perfectly said... unfortunately the contract was not written to cover 70 percent of pilot group on reserve..
I'm no company guy but every dollar we spend extra right now has a severe impact on whether we have a company tomorrow. The situation is serious. With a SCOTUS nomination going to take the priority in congress, saving the jobs of airline pilots isn't going to make the front page.
Making next year when people want to travel and there is no airline to do it, than it will be front page news.

To be fair....we were one of the only airlines that didn't use some sort of hot/airport reserve up until now.
As to your question about how long it will be around, it's in the contract so I'd venture to say it's here to stay until it's negotiated out. I say this as someone who is on reserve (and will be for a while). Nobody is thrilled about it but it's hard to be upset about such a small thing with so many guys and girls out on the street these days.

It’s good for you. Builds your immunities. If it’s in your contract and they’re using it, then they’ll use it forever. Expect your VP of Flight Ops to start adopting the narrative of “it enhances our flexibility” and “it allows us to immediately react to schedule changes.” Seriously, embrace the suck because it isn’t going away.

Its not even that- it’s how inefficient it has been so far. There is absolutely no language whatsoever, and they aren’t even going in seniority order to issue RAS. I’ve had someone junior to me and someone senior to me all show up at the crew room at 5 am just to have a guy who shows up 2 hours later fly an out and back which one of us could have flown. How come CLT isn’t doing RAS but PHL pilots are stuck with it?

BUT I would be ****ed as well if I showed up at 5:00 am and someone else did an out and back at 7:00 am.
Sorry!!

No skin since I'm not at PDT, or a regional for that matter,, but has there ever been talk to work in the ability to trip trade even with reserve? This situation being that you showed at 0500 and wanted to fly and maybe that dude/dudette showed at 0700 not wanting to and would've rather sat and read a book in the crewmroom, could've traded, and made a win win. Just curious.
