The big question is whether single class 50 seaters will fill a role in the new normal.
Clearly they had a role before, but the game has changed. Whether the 50 seaters take the brunt if “change” is an arguable question, but it’s foolish to think everything will keep the same form and just shrink in size.

They said the deal was necessary because flying small RJs into NYC is not economical, but AA needs feed for their international flying from NYC. That's where Jetblue came into the picture.
They specifically contrasted this with PHL, where operating flights is much less expensive. Small RJ feed from upstate NY goes through PHL rather than NYC for this very reason. It makes economic sense. My takeaway was that Piedmont is valuable to the AA network in PHL, on routes they don't want to fly a 319 on.

Things are going to change but it is hard to say how. My guess is 50 seaters are way down on the priority list in the revenue planning office. The airframes will eventually age out and their old use cases might not be economical.

Sell one 1st class seat and it pays for the whole crew. Right now their problem is, no-one is paying for those first class seats.

I can tell you that this industry makes its money off of, “rounding errors”... Margins are often absurdly thin in aviation. So they absolutely take these types of things into account.

Without knowing the terms of Scope. I assume the 65 seat RJ's count but what about the 50's. The 140 was called a "scope buster" because it did not rise to the level for that calculation.
Does the present iteration of Scope count the 145's or are they excluded???
