food for thought.
Benefits will be paid as your taking someone elses furlough spot. Different than taking a leave of absence.

That pilot, by being a downgrading captain... would save a downgrade and a furlough on the list... that is a good thing..

So when said downgrades are complete, how does upgrade work? Do they get grandfathered back without thought to the seniority list? Or will they compete with FOs that have hit upgrade minimums by seniority?

Is it just me or does it seem like this is going to last for more than a year? Why would they spend months to send people to FO training, only to bring them back to captains a year or so later, plus retrain all the furloughed FO’s? There has to be something going on behind the scenes, it just doesn’t make sense for them to furlough for a year and do all of that.

So it sounds like these are planned reductions and not official furlough notices. What could possibly change between now and Oct.1 that will reverse the company's plan? I'm hoping we keep everyone on property, but AA reducing schedules again isn't encouraging.

Just remember kids, “temporary” isn’t in the company’s nor a bankruptcy judge’s vocabulary.

Furloughs are for at least 18 months to make it financially feasible for the company.

that’s the rule of thumb for mainline where furloughs set off a training cascade and there are some contractual poison pills. Probably much lower break even at a regional.

also, if a company is willing to spend $2 in a year to save $1 today, the calculation is different
