What regulation says “the proper way”? It has a spot/place for epaulets right? Who would think/know you’re not supposed to wear them?
Most of the time yes. But until the company provides ear/face/ hands(exposed skin) items for those < 0 temps, Crews will need to dress appropriately so people can do a safe/thorough walk around, not a “it’s freezing out here, let’s rush around the plane” walk around.
That is just ridiculous....that’s not even apples and oranges, that’s comparing apples to feet. I don’t even know where to start.
If a fed sees you go >250 below 10k intentionally, you are getting action (rightly so). If a fed sees you with a trench coat and epaulets on....the world keeps spinning.
If we want to go stupid extreme apples to feet. There were people in Nam who shot innocent women and children at the “order so of “higher ups”. And a few heroes who didn’t follow, because common senses or morals.... By that logic, wearing trench coat and epaulets makes one a hero as well. Which is stupid, as stupid as your 250 reference.
This isn’t safety related, the feds don’t care, this isn’t even “looking professional” related, as I can guarantee 99.9% of people think it is just as professional, and understand exposed skin in freezing temps could be a safety issue.
This isn’t a problem in the summer.
It’s a power tripping high horse folks problem. What still is a problem in the summer that many of the general population would think is unprofessional is not pressed uniform, glasses on head or hanging from various places on uniform, loose ties, and various other “sloppy” things that we don’t get emails over and don’t potentially affect one’s health.

As for the My Lai reference, you lost me on that one. Stay warm out there.

If you're referring to the company issue Twin Hill coats, the look book specifies shoulder boards. Not that anyone cares, but the intent was to wear rank. This is a moot point with the M&H coats, because they do not have loops for rank.

Exactly what I'm referring to. Never said you couldn't do it, just said you looked like a clown. Besides, they only gave us a single pair of boards then so unless you went out of your way to look like Alexander Marinesko..... To each their own

agree. Boards on coats and or sweaters have always been toolish. Seem to go with the guys who wear hats. Also I wish I could fly the 900 heavy so I could show even more rank by making my boards inverted.
the best aviators have no need to remind everyone of their rank. reputations precede them.

Honestly the biggest issue about this whole uniform debacle is how it started. If anyone actually took the time and read the email from the union you would know this whole issue allegedly started from crew members going to a Chief Pilot and complaining/ratting on fellow crew members about their uniforms not being M&H.
Think about that for a second. That is a bigger issue. If your fellow crew members’ clothing / appearance is that big of a deal for YOU, and it’s causing some sort of distress for YOU, and you are unable to perform your duties due to your fellow crew members’ clothing, then go through the proper channels and contact your union rep first before going to management. I always assumed we were suppose to have each other’s backs out there, don’t be “THAT GUY”. If so, you’ll catch a name for yourself just like 2 particular PHL CAs that both FOs and FAs avoid flying with.

Someone told me the other day that it was because a pilot was wearing a certain red hat with particular political leanings while in uniform. No idea if that's true or not. Anyone else hear that?
_IF_ true, that would certainly warrant a response from the chiefs office.

Although, talking politics at work is just asking for trouble no matter who you are.
